One of my mushroom rocks started with 2 small ones now they take up the whole rock but have not multiplied yet.

Anyone have any ideas what these tentacles are coming out of this rock?
aquarium - 75G tank with 20G Refugium Unknow10

Any ideas on what these white tubes are? I have them expanding to other rocks now and keep trying to prune them off but not sure what they are?

The tenticals appear to be a mini-brittle starfish. Good to have. The tube stuff is some sort of sponge? I don't think it's anything to worry about. Others will chime in Smile Good start!

Agreed. Although I'm thinking it's an actual brittle star rather than the mini. I haven't seen a mini get larger than a quarter in my tank.

Sponge for sure. With it growing that fast I wonder about your filtering. They're natural filter feeders so great to have, but lots of growth means lots of nutrients to feed on.

lol, it never comes out of the rock so I don't have a clue to it's body size, and it has tentacles coming out the other side of the rock now also Smile

besides the frozen food I feed the anemone I add the following items every week:

Coral Vite
Essential Elements
MicroVert
liquid calcium (for the snails since they are starting to populate)
I have tested for calcium before adding any.
Zooplex
Strontium & Molybdenum

I alternate the microvert and zooplex

is there anything I should add to the tank for control of the sponge? will it over grow or crowd out anything else?(I don't want it to compete against my other corals to much)

aquarium - 75G tank with 20G Refugium Empty aquarium setup

Post by grawlfang Sat 26 Nov 2011, 5:52 pm

I am running a external pump/filter system 750 something or other, seaclone 100 protein skimmer, temp is 80 degrees constant, lighting is 8x 65 Power Compact Reef w/ Lunars (4 x 12k and 4 x actinic 420's)(8-10hrs a day), 18 watt inline UV (currently before the filter system). I have a lot of green and reddish brown algae still, but am starting to get the purple crystalline algae.

Looks like you've got some good steady growth going on there, and the Sebae is looking plump and happy. I was going to ask what the "2001 Space Odyssey " column was until I saw the closer pic.

I'm however not sure of just how effective the mousetrap will be in the tank ;-)

my Sebae wants to keep hiding you can see him in the lower left. My Condylactis is doing great hardly even moves (he will have to when I add more LR where he is) or I will add it to the other side if he insists Very Happy
I was reading and it says a Sebae does better with a hosted clown? anyone have any experiences with a Sebae?

Oh and my sea apple has moved to the return jets now Smile he didn't like me removing the skimmer as he sat under the return on that before.
