Took out one of my big hog problems this afternoon!
I been seeing this big ole hog for several years on my deer lease, my Deer have mysteriously vanished in the past two weeks and all I can see are large hog tracks, well, he showed himself at my feeder this afternoon and one well placed shot from my 243 dropped him in his tracks ( this is unheard of with a large hog they usually run even with large caliber rifles) . Maybe my Deer will return now. My Son and a friend helped load him up and they both said he was well over 300 pounds. His hooves were as big as my fist and his tusks were bigger than my thumb, glad he's gone!

Donnie, if you have no intentions for the tusks I would love to have one to take back with me to the UK the next time I go to see my parents, to show them just how big a wild boar tusk can get to.
BTW, having chatted in the past to a friend at work that hog hunts, I will confirm the fact that dropping a hog with a single shot is very unusual. Nice shot, clean kill, well done.

Thanks Yeti, My Son and the guy he works for have been mixing hog and deer and making some great sausage so since there was no way I could load this big sucker, I had my Son and a friend come help me load him up and they took the hog. Well as it turned out they decided not to skin the big hog and ended up giving it to a friend of my son so I have no idea where the tusks have ended up but he did have some huge cutters on him. I will check with my Son and see if he can get hold of a tusk.

After the holidays I'm going to try to start building a hog trap for our place. The hogs don't show up everyday and when they do it's almost always 2 in the morning. As much as I hunt out there I have never seen a hog in person but I get a lot of pics of them on my trail cam. Trap is simple to make I just have to get it all together one day and do it.

Nice kill, Donnie. I've got several pounds of that deer/hog sausage. It's excellent.
Good luck with the trap , Gabe. Pigs are smart . Most people up here use stands or dogs.

If you need some help with that trap let me know, my Son has been trapping them off his deer lease and having real good luck with his trap.
