I was using superglue to attach a frag and my Rabbit fish nipped at it. Now he has a piece hanging on his lip. Will it fall off? He seems to be ok and can open his mouth.

So can you take a frag, put glue on it and then put it in the water and stick it to a rock that way? I've been taking the rocks out, drying a patch then gluing it. It would be much easier to stick them in place underwater.

It'll dry best for sure glued out of the water. If I'm trying to "glue" in the water I try to use epoxy.

I used the epoxy when working on the tank too. It a 2 part epoxy that's kinda like a clay. I just kneed them together and smash it onto my rockwork and the press the frag into place. eventually the frag just encrusts over the epoxy.

Guess I'll be the oddball here. I glue all my frags with superglue gel in the water. Obviously I don't glue in the water but I put a dab of superglue gel on the frag and stick it down directly to the rocks. It turns to a paste immediately when it hits the water and by the time you get it where you want it hardens and holds the frag perfectly. You have to use superglue gel or it's too runny. Even if I glue a frag out of the water I dip it in the water immediately to set the glue. I do all my sps that way.

I've done it that way too. My snails just always seemed to break them off before the coral would encrust. Worked well otherwise. The epoxy could build up pretty high so the snails wouldn't knock them over on me. The gel glue is actually what I used on that first purple tipped acro. Since that one fell off and got lost I switched.

It does work that way though... IF YOUR SNAILS AREN'T EVIL!!!

I never had much trouble loosing them. Sometimes a thin sps like birdsnest can be trouble to glue. I always heard epoxy created heat while curing so you weren't supposed to epoxy directly to the coral. I never tried to epoxy frags but I've used it on colonies with rock already attached. It always took too long for the epoxy to harden and hold it in place. I go through A LOT of superglue gel though. I'm sure the epoxy would be a tougher but it takes a long time to harden for me. Maybe it was the brand I used.

Mine (the one I posted above) was "clay-like" enough that even though it hadn't hardened yet it would still easily hold the coral in place while it dried. They do heat up a touch... but nothing major. That brand hasn't killed anything yet and I've used it directly against the frag for nearly everything in my tank. Maybe I wasn't supposed to and just got extremely lucky though! I usually just make a good ball of it, push that ball onto the rock. Then I'll take the coral and push it down into the epoxy. Then I'll push the epoxy up around the coral a bit. The corals that I got just a few weeks back (6 weeks?) from Tony have already nearly covered the epoxy.
