Re: How about some Big Fish Pics!
The paddlefish are endangered in Texas. In Missouri, the population has to be controlled. You are correct, they will not hit a lure and must be snagged.
Nice catch!!! I have never been fishing in the ocean. Maybe one of these days.

We used to catch those paddlefish below the dam at caddo lake years ago fishin for catfish, They would swim into our lines and get hooked up there were so many, they were a nusance, could'nt keep em off your hook but they dissapeared there, can't find one any more.

I read a while back that they made a habitat for them near Hwy. 59 somewhere and restocked them recently. There was something about dumping a bunch of rocks in the river to make it more like a natural area.

Re: How about some Big Fish Pics!
Here is a pic of an Alligator Gar I caught at Caddo about 30 years ago. I caught this thing while fishin for big flathead catfish with perch for bait. It took about half an hour to land him on 60 pound test line. I didn't know at the time but it would have been a world record for 60lb line class.

Dude
We have to go fishing together
Re: How about some Big Fish Pics!
Donnie.... Texas is trying hard to revive the paddlefish species. Believe it or not, that is about the best tasting fish I have ever had. Another unkown fact, the eggs from these fish are the most sought after fresh water caviar in the world. It's very expensive for a small jar of the eggs from a paddlefish. That's the main reason they are nearly extinct in many states.

Re: How about some Big Fish Pics!
Oh man, if you like the taste of paddlefish you would fall head over heals for some good ole cajun fried flathead catfish, they are by far the best tasting freswater fish you can get your hands on. No matter the size, they are just as good at 50 lbs as 5. I have eaten paddlefish and yes its good when its hot, no bones at all nice white meat but really don't compare to flathead, you gotta try it.

Re: How about some Big Fish Pics!
yall gonna make me hungry... 5am and im already thinkin about thawin out some redfish from the freezer and having some grilled for lunch!
havent ate paddlefish, but i can tell you that flathead cat is about as good as it gets. the only other freshwater fish i might enjoy as much as fried cat is whole fried crappie... omg its so good!
im here to tell you boys a secret tho... that cat n crappie dont hold a candle to some speckled trout from the gulf coast. that is on a higher level fellas!
i find if i take the whole trouts, headed and gutted, sprinkle with salt & pepper, a little tony's (more spices), a spoon full of real butter, and fresh from the garden smashed garlic, wrap it in foil and put that bad boy on the grill, cook over medium heat untill flakey... i swear it will convert you!

I have to disagree man, I have had Specs and pretty much all the gulf fish including reds, Flounder, King and all the deep sea fish and I have yet to find a salty that suits my taste, they just aint that good to me, maybe my taste buds but I have tried cooking them about every way there is but they just dont cut it. I will agree though, aint many fish will touch a whole fried crappie, I like em with the skin on not fillet.

I would take ya up on the meat trade but I have gone to catch and release, I catch em snap a picture and let em go back. I have even been threatened once while releasing a big cat cause some a$$ hole thought if I was gonna let it go, I should have given it to him, well it don't work that way, he can catch his own or go without. All I fish for is big flathead catfish with rod-n-reel, no trotlines or stuff like that, I like the fight of a big Flathead! it takes a long time to grow these big cats and if we keep keeping them there won't be any left for our kids to catch. My Son is following in my footsteps. he loves catching them too and he has two boys and another boy on the way. He wants his kids to be able to catch them to. We gotta manage what we catch or they will be gone just like the Paddlefish from Caddo.
My Wife catches em too, below are a couple of pics.
A 46 pounder my Wife caught.
My Son was catching them when he was little.
Ilove catching these guys.

Re: How about some Big Fish Pics!
DonnieP - I have gone to catch and release on just about everything but the paddlefish. I fish them the same way; standard rod and real. Many people in Missouri use surf rods and with 50 trouble hooks on the line. The fish don't stand a chance. This people are also the ones that take way more than the limit. As you say, our children will not have the pleasure of catching them as long as people are not concerned with the regulations.
Thanks for the extra pics. Looks like a lot of fun.

Lake Tankersley spillway (creek) in Titus County . I set my first line ( 1/2 ounce weight with an offset shiner-baited hook at 18" up) and had her on the line before I could get the other line baited.
