Ok after talking with Matt yesterday on my PC lights since I was running 4 - 65w 12k super daylights and 4 - 65w 460 antic blues my lighting still looked more white/yellow and we discussed changing 2 of my 12k to another pair of antics. Well I did that this morning lit everything up looking great and blue tint with the 2 new antics. BUT low and behold I found out none of my other 4 antics were working! I was only getting the 4 super daylights (found out they are actually a 50/50 light 10k and 420 antic.) so now when I get home I will be replacing 2 more antics to find out if its the bulbs or ballast. I am thinking bulbs since they are a dark color and the 12k were working, now I will see what kind of growth I get and oh the colors were so nice this morning Smile I have the shorter PC's (24") with straight pins and may end up buying 2 more 460 blues I am using 65w Odyssea bulbs now anyone recommend a better brand?

Half of your lighting running may explain much of the issues you've run into! I kept thinking that some of the things going on in your tank sounded like insufficient lighting. Hopefully this helps dramatically!

Id guess your ballast is bad, i dunno what fixture you run but mines a current usa, and it will fire up the other bulbs even if ones bad, or even completely removed from the fixture. I'm skeptical that four bulbs would fail at once. Jmo

A simple way to check would be to just switch your bulbs, put the four whites you kno work where the actinics are and vice versa... if the whites then come on you know the ballast isnt bad, and you can check your actinics bulbs on a ballast you know is working at the same time.

to replace the true actinic bulbs what do you think about a 50/50 bulb true actinic 420 and royal blue 460?

Depends on what color temp you're going for mainly. It'll be more purple/blue that way. A straight 460 would be more beneficial for coral growth.
