Okay so I'm in the dreaming stage of my big tank. I've got several things in mind, but want to hear what you guys would do as well. In pretty much every area too. Fish, corals (this is a must... primarily SPS dominant), inverts ect. Plans with fish must be reef safe, preferably not even "with caution". Would love some interesting invert ideas as well. I always love symbiotic relationships too such as clowns and anemones, shrimp/goby pair ect. Let me know what you guys think! :-)

I like the idea of symbiotic relationships. I would also do pairs or shoals of fish if possible instead of a bunch of individual fish. I think everything added I would look to make it as natural as possible to replicate the habitat. Like if you add a BTA then add a pair of Clarkiis, Tomato or Maroons instead of Percs or Ocellaris since BTA don't host them in the wild. If you add a big carpet nem then add a pair of percs or ocellaris. Research everything to make it natural instead of trying to cram a bunch of odd and end things in there. I think any fish possible to pair up I would try.

I want to do pairs as much as possible also. I want a pair of cleaner shrimp and will likely keep my coral banded as well. Will buy trios and pairs of fish from divers den if I must.

I might have to seriously look into a carpet nem. I don't know if I'm gutsy enough! Or a different type of clownfish. I'm also nervous about putting in a tomato or other large and potentially aggressive clown with so many other peaceful tank mates.

Divers Den also has some blue reef chromis now. Wouldn't be interested in them from Live Aquaria (every single one from our last order didn't make it) but Divers Den I could do! Would love to try 10 or so of those guys! If I could actually get them to swim together and be all happy without killing one another off... lol.

Maybe I could use the rack system to try to slowly create pairs and trios. If they don't work out I can just separate them back out before putting them in the big tank. That way I can pay $20 per fish for three fish instead of $180 for a trio! lol.

Ohhhh... I'm researching the black saddleback clownfish. It appears they can be kept as a group rather than a pair! They'll also host in a long tentacle... which I would of course choose a purple one. Perhaps the best of both worlds...

I was Vulturing that blue reef chromis. He's only a little guy though. I'm looking for a larger one.

Tomato clowns weren't aggressive for me. I had a cinnamon or tomato I don't know which but it was the dark red one with the black and yellow. It was pretty big and not at all aggressive. It's one of my favorite fish. The problem I had with it was no anemone and it hosted EVERYTHING in the tank; lps, feather dusters etc. I'm not sure if a pair would be more aggressive but if I had a huge tank a pair of cinnamons with a rainbow BTA would be on my list. I'm even looking for a pair for my 20 once my nem gets bigger of I find a small pair.

Research has completely led me away from the saddleback. Too much reading of them killing anemones. One person even said her large female would run away and actually force herself into the mouth of the host anemone to hide! That's insane! Haha. I'd like to see it once... if I didn't pay for the anemone! :-)

I think I'm back to the cinnamon or tomato. Perhaps I won't get a snowflake. I'll have to see more pics of yours before deciding. ;-)

I want to find an interesting combo of tangs, but just can't pick after the Vlamingii and Powder Blue. I'm trying to stay away from the more aggressive tangs.

Potentially one of these guys: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+43+328&pcatid=328

Pow! Problem solved. It will probably still be for sale when you get your big tank set up. Smile

So an update of the "dream" thus far...

It will be an SPS dominant system with a few polyps, acans, clams and a BTA island.

    Stocking plans thus far:
    Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon)
Caribbean Blue Tang ( Acanthurus coeruleus)
4 or 5 Australian Stripey (Microcanthus strigatus)
Pair of Bellus Angelfish (Genicanthus bellus)
    Clownfish Pair (Amphiprion ocellaris)
    Royal Gramma Pair (Gramma loreto)
    Kaudern's Cardinal Pair (Pterapogon kauderni)

I know I know... Ocellaris? I already have the clownfish pair... I know they're not aggressive... and... well... I just don't know that I could get rid of them! I keep thinking about removing them from the 29g. But they're my first fish! lol

Yes... Let's add a trio. Not sure which species. That sunset color is dang near required!

Oh, and of course my vlamingii as well.

    I'd say that's fully stocked.

Added a few things... a Starry Blenny, Anthias Trio, Desjardini Sailfin Tang & Wrasse. It's very likely that a goby/pistol shrimp pair get added also.

Of course I needed a Blenny... and if you ask me there are none prettier.
    Starry Blenny: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+23+2263&pcatid=2263

I'm wanting Anthias that are going to get a bit larger but are also peaceful. Choosing primarily peaceful fish is absolutely a goal. Also a desire is a male and female that don't look the same. First (and more expensive) choice would be...
    Pictilis Anthias: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+20+61&pcatid=61
Second, not as peaceful but less expensive choice would be...
    Maldives Lyretail Anthias: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+20+1512&pcatid=1512

I wanted to pick a Wrasse that wasn't primarily the sunset color like the Anthias. That way they'll be less likely to be aggressive and add another color to the tank. They'll also help control pests! Bonus. :-) Here's the choice.
    Scott's Fairy Wrasse: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+1378+1397&pcatid=1397

I love the outline of the sailfin tangs, but wasn't loving the color. How did I miss this guy?! Traded out the Blue Caribbean Tang, which might get added back later... but anyways... Love it!
    Sailfin Tang, Desjardini: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+43+378&pcatid=378

    * = done deal. No way they won't be in there!

    Here's the updated stocking list!
    *Vlamingii Tang (Naso vlamingii)
    *Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon)
    Sailfin Tang, Desjardini (Zebrasoma desjardini)
*School of 5 Australian Stripey (Microcanthus strigatus)

*Trio of Bellus Angelfish (Genicanthus bellus)
