Here goes...
Ok. Thanks to you guys and some direction from Lone Star Aquariums my tank is now CLEAR!! All my livestock has been rehomed (except a yellow snail) and I am ready to start my journey to having a Cichlid tank. I am posting a before picture and will update as I make progress. I am waiting on my holy rock to come in and will do my rock-scaping, then plants... And finally the stars of the show... The fishes!! I am still not 100% sure what I am doing but thanks to you guys I'm getting there. Please let me know what I'm am doing wrong and I am open to any advice along the way!! Thanks!

i'm the one that got sucker fish and when you get your cichlids they like places to hide and swim through incase they are getting chased. lol So when your holy rock gets there make it where there are lots of hiding spots. and thanks again.

I hope he made it home ok and is doing well. As you can see in the pic, he has made a few large sand dunes in my tank! LOL Thank you for giving him a good home! Thanks also for the advice, I will definately keep that in mind, and welcome to the forum!! I have found it a great place to get help and ideas so far, the people I have talked to are so very friendly and helpful!!

Ok... Today I moved sand around and put egg crate in, then started my rock scaping!! I'm not sure that I'm real happy with it so it may change a little here and there. It will definately change if I find a big ole chunk of holy rock!! I am definately going to add some plants and probably build the rocks up just a little more. The water is a little cloudy, but like I said I had to move the sand around some and had to leave right after so it hadn't settled back down yet!

Re: Here goes...
Hey that's looking good the holy rock helped it out. I am just wondering one thing I have heard it before but still can't figure it out. What are you considering egg crate. Is it like undergravel filter or what I am just a little lost can anyone help?

Re: Here goes...
I didn't know until yesterday!! (Thanks Yeti) it is in just to put under the substrate to help evenly distribute the weight load across the glass. It is in the flourescent lighting section at Home Depot (went to two different Lowe's, they didn't have it) it comes in a sheet of 4' x 2' and is just a sheet of plastic squares used for something in flourescent lights! I am sure someone has a better explination than that tho...

Ok. I rearranged the rocks and like it somewhat better! Still not completely satisfied but maybe when I get some plants in it'll look better. Hoping to find some bigger holey rock when I visit my grandmother at canyon lake for a few days. I took the pic with te light off... You can see the rocks better for some reason, and the water is not green it's crystal clear just the glow of my living room I guess!

Re: Here goes...
Anyone looking for eggcrate, it is no longer in the lighting section at Lowe's. It's now closer to their lumber and building supplies. Didn't pay attention to the exact section but just an FYI.

I like it, and the "for now" part. If you're off to the hill country I bet that means a major landscape change will ensue.

Re: Here goes...
It probably will! But.... I'll live with it for now. I am sure any rock I come home with will be DIRTY!! And may take a lil while to clean up. That way when I get tired of this I can change it around! Lol

Re: Here goes...
I think it looks really good. I like the fact that the background isn't all one level, and the foreground is nicely set up to allow hiding places and plenty of room to see your fish enjoying it!
