Will be looking for Cichlids VERY soon!! (hopefully this weekend) I want to try and get 1 male and a few females of each type. (they will not be leaving my tank, so if any of them decide to cross breed and happen to survive there will be no risk of mutts hitting the market!!)

I would like to get them around 2"?? I think...

I have narrowed some of the types I will be looking for to....
** Labidochromis Caeruleus (Yellow Lab)
** Metriaclima Estherae (Red Zebra)
** Pseudotropheus Elongatus Chailosi
** Pseudotropheus Maingano

If anyone knows where I can find some of these (especially good deals) just lmk please! Thanks ya'll! Smile

Hey jlr!

Sounds like you are off to a better start. If you are getting help from Yeti then you are getting some good help. I have also answered your pm.
I would be very slow about adding live stock back to the tank.....one or two fish at a time every week or 2. That way the good bacteria has a chance to build up in the filter and overcome the bad bacteria. Keep up the 10 to 20% water changes for now and your tank will cycle soon enough......be patient ....its worth the wait.

I have a 55 gallon cichlid tank with 7 red zebras, 2 featherfin catfish, a highfin pleco, 2 bristle nose pleco. I am needing to move 6 of the red zebras out of the tank if you would like them. They are free. They are healthy and about a yr old. You may have one or all. I will keep them and you can get them at your leisure, I am in no hurry to see them go. I also have several Jack Dempsey's in a 60 gallon but not sure how I will divide them up at this time. Some of those will be available later but they are from S America and should go in S America tank only. I may also be re-homing one of my featherfin catfish.......he is about 3.5 inches. Let me know if this is something you might be interested in.

Let me know of any specific questions you have. I may be able to answer or find an answer for you. I have learned by asking others and by making mistakes.......ughh! Yeti here on the forum has cichlids and as you have found out is willing to share his expertise.

You are welcome to email me anytime. I am happy you found us here and glad to help if I can. Enjoy!

CL
