Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Kill it that aiptasia while you can. It really only takes one to ruin your coral reef...been there. Matt i got a kickass mojano that is like flourescent kryptonite green. Id much rather have them than aiptasia!

Haha. That's an awesome way to get te pic. It worked... Looks good! The pic and the majonos. Lol
I've seen some multicolored majonos for sale that are really really nice. They may grow fast and kill most anything they fight against but they don't free spawn and I don't really mind them a ton. I'm with you... If I had a fowlr I'd go for it!

Oh yeah. Now that's the real way to do an aggressive tank. Mantis, green hairy mushrooms, majonos. Maybe a great white?

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
I have coralline growing! The funny thing is that since I don't have the Kessil light yet I've been opening the window beside the tank all day. With my old LEDs it was always hard to grow coralline and now I'm doing it without a light! Bizarre...
Here's a pic of my three lonely fish without coral. I've got a bit of an aggressive tank going with two damsels and a six line. Haha! The only one who will stick around in the tank is the six line.
These damsels are fun to watch though. Constantly moving around the tank and very colorful.

Eventually I'll be able to tell you if that's true or not! Haha. I sure hope not because it's beautiful. I'm paying a typical RBTA price so I won't be too upset. A Lemon Drop BTA is still on the list! Someday... someday...
Thanks guys. I couldn't pass it up. Having a VERY hard time passing up this Maxima... At $90 it's VERY tempting.

Looking good Matt! Hope you didn't forget the cardinal rule of a mature system before adding a clam. If you feed it, it might survive, keep us posted on its growth, it is a beauty.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
I hear six months minimum. It'll be about 8 months at that point. It has been so steady this far I'm pretty confident. I have been dosing MB7 and ZeoBak to boost bacteria for awhile now. I think it was a huge bonus letting it cook for so long in the basement.
Thank you for the reminder Donnie!
I'll have a few weeks with SPS before these come in. If I note any problems I'll hold off on the clam and anemone.

It's moving quick now that I'm sure the bacteria is balancing out. I want more tiny critters though. Mini brittle stars, bristle worms, sponges ect. There's not enough little stuff!
I don't know about figured out Donnie! Haha. Just intelligent guesses!

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
The Kessil is exactly what I was hoping for. Great color temp on this... I read reviews that say it looks like a Phoenix 14K an that's a great comparison. I'd say it's a touch more blue, which makes since because they advertise 15k.
The shimmer is great on this light. Closest LEDs have come to MH shimmer that I've seen... The nice big ripples of light. Just looks good. The color is a bit less blue than my iPhone pics. I'll take some real pics with a real camera once I have something to take pics of! Haha
I read somewhere that the A150W gooseneck was flimsy. Completely false. The thing is 1/2 thick and solid. Absolutely ZERO concerns whatsoever that the gooseneck will ever be an issue.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Checked all of my parameters tonight. Everything looks good except phosphates. I'm adding in some Phosban to the TLF reactor. I will be ready for coral soon!
PS. This light is still sweet! A buddy up here who has a 300g cube came in the house today and walked out deciding that he was buyin these Kessils for his tank. Haha!

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Water change done. Phosban added. I also did a mod to the skimmer that's supposed to increase skim mate. Running it wet today also. I added in a little extra saltwater during the WC and so I'm going to pull that an a little extra gunk out through the skimmer. Also turned my skimmers input to a higher flow area of the sump to pull more yuck out.
A few small changes should make a big difference today. Gonna look into a few scavengers in the next few days also.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Everything is looking good. I snagged a nice piece o montipora confusious the other day. It was actually a GREAT deal! A nice 6 inch piece for $20! It looks great. Has made it through the crucial first few days without a hitch. The tank responded well to my little upgrades. Phosphates are down and everything is looking good. I really expected a green hair algae outbreak as soon as I got my light on, but nothing! Everything is staying pretty clean. I'm going to stick with 10g water changes, Chemi-pure elite and purigen for now. It has done me well in the past. Now that I'm runnin a skimmer I should be able to use a liquid phosphate remover anytime phosphates rise rather than dealing with Phosban.
Here's a pic of the monti and a fts.
