Replacing Frags Empty Replacing Frags

Post by David012081 Sun 24 Mar 2013, 10:54 pm

I made my first attempt at cutting and moving a couple corals. I had a Kenya Tree and a Ricordea Mushroom attached to a frag plug that I cut today and moved to a piece of Live rock. I secured them with a piece of nylon wedding veil over them and placed some rubber bands around the rock securing the wedding veil down where the frags shouldn't move but not too tight. I also did this too some recently fragmented superman mushrooms I got today. So the question is how long should it take for them to attach to my rock? And is their anything I should add to help them out?

Replacing Frags Empty Re: Replacing Frags

For me the time varied.. I had some Kenya other soft corals attach by themselves in less than 2 days but I've also had a mushroom that I attached with your same method and it moved 2 weeks later.. I would say about a week on average.. I also wouldn't change anything in your tank.. Keep the flow the same as well as your lighting.. Sometimes it'll take longer for corals to attach if they're not happy in a place bc the conditions are always changing.. Good luck and let us know how it goes

Replacing Frags Empty UPDATE

Post by David012081 Tue 02 Apr 2013, 7:35 pm

I took the veil off of the superman mushrooms three days ago and the veil off of the Ricordea mushroom today. They seem to have attached very firmly. So I believe it was a success. Now the Kenya tree just decided to grow to the wedding veil and did not even attempt to stick to the rock. Sad I pulled it off of the veil and placed it on the rock with rubber bands around the rock and him woven in the middle so hopefully it will try to attach to the rock this time.

All Superman mushrooms were a success and the Kenya tree finally attached but the Ricordea Mushroom will not even attempt to attach any suggestions?

It took me three weeks to get a tricolor ricordea to attach once, just have patience. That methods about the best thing you can do. Usually i use superglue gel to attach my frags but rics n shrooms are just too slimy!
