LOl, that is a loaded question as all of us have different size refugium ideas Smile Some say go with as big as will fit in the stand with all your other items. I personally go with the biggest I can fit, which in my case was a 55G, but I have learned a few things about space and refugiums (I would still go with the 55G again) and would build it a little different. I also use my refugium as a staging point also though. Next time I will build a stand to hold 2 aquariums underneath 1 refugium and the other to hold my other equipment in case something springs a leak to catch the water.

What type I filtering are you planning? If you're planning for a lot of other materials being under the tank then your fuge area will need to be smaller. Like Kevin was sayin'... the general answer is as big as possible. :-)

In my dream setup I either have a dedicated fish room or pump up from my basement and have a huge 170g rubber made fuge plumbed into the system. Bigger if possible. Haha.

Under the cabinet you're limited by stand space and other equipment.

+1 on as big as possible. like Kevin mentioned, you could always use some of the space as a staging area, or possibly for a problematic crab or pest that's bothering you. like Matt said, the ideal setup would be a dedicated room or basement where you could really go big and spread out!
