40 Gallon Freshwater Empty 40 Gallon Freshwater

Post by Yuma Fri 04 Feb 2011, 10:45 pm

Ok, so a month or so ago I started a freshwater tank for my three year old daughter. It's a custom built ~40 gallon with custom stand passed down from Pops, Uncle Chuck and Mommy. Well, after a couple of weeks and a few of her own choices for decorations we have a successful tank with an orange guppy, an orange glo-fish, a chinese algae eater, and three neon tetras.

Future stocking ideas include (at her request):
A couple of small angels
a Black fish...lol...not sure which particular fish we may go with here
Another glofish or two
A few additional guppies
Perhaps a few blackskirts or other schooling fish.

anyway, here's a few pics so that you can see the tank:

A little closer for effect of the decorations:

Any thoughts, opinions, criticisms, etc. are welcome.
Very Happy

She definitely loves it....bugs me all the time to go to "the fish store". I'd like to add/replace a few of the plants just to bring it together a little bit better. Time will tell how that goes.

Anyone see any issues on the future stocking ideas? It's been a long time since I've done a freshwater tank and my memory is sketchy.

Come on now, tell the truth. You set that tank up for her so you'd have an excuse to go to "the fish store" for you. Twisted Evil jocolor

Current filtration with the small bio-load is a Rena XP1. Running the 20MM foam, a bag of bio-rings, a bag of carbon, and the polishing filter.

Added two small angels last night. Hopefully the glo-fish will leave them alone. It ended up killing the smaller of the orange guppies.
