What to do with a 2.2g
Hey all,
So by the goodness of a friend's heart I was able to pick up this little pico tank the other day. I haven't made up my mind on what to do with it, and so I was gonna ask ya'll what should I do. Its an Aqueon Evo 2, with the stock lighting and some crushed coral and shells left over from the last time it was set up. My idea was a little zoa garden or a cherry shrimp tank, but I'm open to any suggestions. I'll probably build a new led lighting system to replace the stock if I go with zoas bc its not quite up to good growing strength. Here are a few pics with the filtration area filled with some new ceramic rings for whatever set up I go with

A Zoa garden would be cute in that little thing!

This is the 8g version. Beautiful little tanks! Just a Zoa Rock with a Sexy Shrimp would look great in the 2.2. Mine has my little Mantis and his castle.

Oh cool, do you have a par 38 bulb on it? I'm considering that as an option and id like to see if anyone has had any success with it.. I was also thinking of maybe a little pistol shrimp and yasha goby, a green clown goby, or a Catalina goby.. Something colorful and small

It has a Boost LED par 30 bulb. Seems to be growing softies and LPD just fine.
Re: What to do with a 2.2g
Added some live rock and it'll be ready to add some coral and fish this weekend! Now i've got to try to find a cool looking little guy to add a little movement. I'm thinking of a citron clown goby and maybe a few sexy shrimp.. also I've got a sweet little light set up on the way from rapidled.com.. It'll be a total of 27 watts with a dimmable driver, I'll do a build log on the the lighting for everyone to check out
I'd like to put some unique species in this tank since I don't have a lot of room to work with. If anyone has any blue pulsing xenia, or unique zoas and palys give me a heads up! I'm mostly looking for soft corals, zoas, palys, mushrooms, star polyps, etc.. and maybe in the future shoot for some easy sps once I've got the levels figured out and the proper dosing scheduled

Re: What to do with a 2.2g
So I got my leds today and was able to put it all togeth]er tonight and get it running. So here ya go with the build log!
Started out with an anodized aluminum heatsink with an acrylic splash guard. Its 6x10 and I only needed a 6x5 for my 8x8 tank so I chopped the heat sink in half.
Here is the heat sink before surgery
after that I set up the configuration for the solderless LEDs I picked up. I chose to go with 4x3w cool white, 4x3w royal blue, and 1x3w UV, So a total of 27 watts. I wired the RB and UV together on a separate dimmable driver with a potentiometer so I could adjust the intensity of the blue so I could pick and choose what would bring out the best colors in the corals I go with.
Here are some pictures of the final product on the tank. Let me know what you think!
Full blast whites, blues, and UV
Whites only
Final product!

Re: What to do with a 2.2g
Just doing a quick update.. I added some coral and changed the sand out for some black substrate. adjusted the mounting set up for my LEDs and this is what I've got goin on now. Enjoy!
I'd like to add some more ricordea if anyone has any available.. Any color is cool with me.. and I still haven't decided on what type fish or inverts yet.. I might just make it a zoas and ricordea garden and leave the fish out of it
