Protein Skimmer Help
I recently was gifted with a 180g FOWLR aquarium along with all of the supplies and livestock. The Protein Skimmer is Aquarium Solutions with a maxi jet 1200 motor, it says it is the manufactor of Instant Ocean on the cap of the waste portion. When I got the aquarium it was working and for some reason it is now not doing anything. I can see the bubbles coming up in the main tube however there are no waste in the top basket thing. I have tried to research this type of skimmer but have found nothing. I have cleaned the skimmer, cleaned out the sponge which goes over the intake tube, adjusted the air flow tube to which I have no idea what this does, adjusted the water level in my sump. All the orings are intact and appear to be functional. Nothing seems to work, I am at the point where I believe it is something that I have done jacking with it but I dont know what it is. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Protein Skimmer Help
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the skimmer is not a very good one. It's commonly know as a SeaClone. I've had several of them. Some actually work well while others never work at all. They can be extremely temperamental. Even if you had one that worked well, it would be sorely underrated for your size tank. Upgrading your skimmer would do wonders for your water quality. It's hard to explain unless you can see a quality skimmer doing it's job. There's literally hundreds of skimmers made on the market out there. Most are a waste of money IMO. A Reef Octopus is about the best brand I've found.
