Brown Algae
I have had my saltwater tank running for 2 months. I have 3 damsels and an emerald crab with live rock in it. It has developed a rust color algea on the sand and back walls. I am new to the saltwater, what causes it and how do I get rid of it or clean it. My tank is 55 gallons. Tks.

Re: Brown Algae
Your tank is cycling, most likely it is diatoms and not algea. Overfeeding will really make it worst. Do some research on diatoms. Rob

I just upgraded from a 55 to a 150 with a 65 sump/fuge, I added new live rock and sand and am currently fighting the diatoms. My ammonia and nitrite is at 0 ph is 8.2-8.4. I've decreased my lighting cycle and adding more snails this week. seems like time is the best solution...
good luck, keep us posted with the battle.
