Well its a little ahead of schedule but I got my 9 month video up on youtube if any of you want to see. I just wish I could get the colors to show up better in the videos.

Just for comparison, here is the three month video.

Very nice. Did you have to do much acclimating for your LPS and other corals?

No, about the only acclimating I do on corals is to float them to get the water the same temp. I don't drip corals, I don't think you need to. The only thing I have problems with are clams and I always drip acclimate clams for about two hours. I think my bad luck with clams goes back to buying bad ones to start with. The last clam I got at Petco, I picked up in its shipping bag sight unseen and when I put it in my tank I noticed it had no new shell around the edges, this is a bad sign to look for when buying but it wasn't open in the shipping bag so there ya go.

I guess I should have specified acclimating to the light. A few things I'm putting in my tank seem to take lots of time to get used to my high lighting.

That's funny about temp acclimating and then dropping them in though. I'm a product of reading articles. I drip acclimate everything! lol.

Got a few new things in this week and got some pics to go with them After Matt having good luck with his Anemone I did some reading on ones that dont move around and ended up with two rock anemones, pretty cool.

Very cool! Love the blue torch coral. If your anemones were like mine they attached in about 10 seconds and haven't moved a bit. :-)

They did, but the green skirt one started moving where I didn't want it to be so I eased it loose and put it on the side of the tank and it dug right in. The other one almost dissapeared under the rock on front, I asume it will stick its head back out soon. I like the blue torch also, just need to find a place to put it. I really like the gold Maxima, nice healthy one. I had hoped to get some stuff for the pico but everything was to big except for one greem ricordea so it went in there.

Man, I got a peppermint shrimp on my hit list now. I got up this morning and one of my peppermints had gone after the white skirt Anemone, he had done enough damage that I don't think the nem will make it. I never dreamed they would go after a full grown nem like that. It looks like it attacked the nem from behid the rock it was attached to. I will watch it and see but it looks pretty bad. I know the nem was in good health so it had to be the Shrimp attacked it.

Well my 28g JBJ finally turned one year old and since I been keep a video record of it every three months, its time for the fourth video. I don't know why but these videos look really good on my computer but when I upload them to Youtube they get grainy and crappy, Matt if you gat any ideas on getting better uploaded video, I'm all ears. I been recording in 1080P and 720P but same result. Notice how bad my Green Slimer looks that has been growing so well in the tank up until I got the bad bucket of Reef crystals, its slowly starting to come back around with the Red Sea Coral Pro salt, I hope I can save it.

It looks pretty good for me. Youtube videos usually take about 6 or 7 hours to render and put up the final video quality. Maybe it was doing that when you first loaded it, but looks nicer now. Try refreshing and see if it will reload the video.

Happy anniversary!

Just added an underwater video of my tank taken with a Kodak Playsport camera. All my fish were being camera shy, not used to the camera being inside the tank!

A great looking addition, I really like these types, I guess they are softies.

I then did some searching and found this thread, may be of use.

GALLON - 28 gallon JBJ led nano - Page 2 Empty What is your lighting schedule

Post by cooperj Tue 06 Sep 2011, 10:12 am

Donnie,

That is a really nice looking reef tank. What is your lighting schedule for the LEDs? I just ordered one and plan on doing some sps. Yours seem to be doing really well.

Thanks

I run my main lights from 8:30am till 7:30pm, the dawn-dusk lights are on 1 hour before and 1 hour after the mains then the moon light is on all night. Are you getting the 89 watt pro version or the 25 watt intermediate version? I have found the JBJ 89 watt to be very intense! Mine has grown sps corals very well up until a few months ago when my water chemistry got off because of a bad bucket of salt and laxed testing on my part and its been a long road to get it back up to par (or my expectations anyway). The only coral I have lost was my big ole green slimer but I grew that thing from a tiny frag into a huge colony just to watch it waste away. I fragged it up and sent it to J.Davis to with as he pleased. I do have corals that migrate away from the intense lighting though like they are seeking shade. I am thinking about replacing several of the 14k leds with royal blue to cut back on the intensity. It would be a simple matter of unsoldering and replacing individual leds. The light in these tanks is a very crisp clear white and I think a little more blue would be cool.

If you are getting the intermediate version it will not support sps corals, it is more for softies and some lps corals. The intermediate has 25 1-watt leds and the pro has 25 3-watt leds plus the four 3-watt blue dawn-dusk and 2 1-watt moon glo.

Two identical above tank shots today, one with flash one without, couldn't get the whole tank in the pic even with the lid open. The blue Maxima and the gold Maxima are still doing great, Note the birdsnests on the right, those are two different species that are growing together without fighting each other.

What I like about those is that it really shows the density of life that is possible on a reef, makes you think, that that is just in a 28G tank, on some of the big reefs it must be amazing.....makes me want to take up SCUBA diving.
