So I've been adding phyto (1ml per day) for the last several weeks and I've noticed that my pods have EXPLODED. They are all over the place. Seriously. I really love it. I was adding phyto for my clam but I think I'll keep adding even after he is larger. I've seen a zoa snag a meal out of them and I've watched a HUGE one get sent out through the return from my live rock rubble area and get snatched up by my clown. I had this little patch of algae about an inch wide and they are all over it. Phytoplankton gets a thumbs up from me.

I used to add DT's to my tank all the time but I quit using it. It will feed the pods but so will any other algae that grows in the tank. I couldn't justify the shipping cost of it and the DT's at Wet Pets was always expired. I did grow some awesome yellow sponges on my live rock. I never had anything bad happen from it and I think it is good in small amounts for a tank. The guy at Exotic Fish used to always try to sell me that stuff as coral food but I don't think it's of any benefit to corals other than feeding the pods. Just my theory but think about how many pods are in a tank and how fast they reproduce. I think the larvae from the pods feeds the corals better than anything but I don't won't go on a tangent. Smile

I love hearing about it. This is one of those things that just doesn't make the articles you read. Basically pods is one of those things that people say "these are good for your tank" and new guys like me (who are smart) say, "okay," and trust you. But actually having them now and seeing corals and fish eat them and see them all over a patch of algae... I love those little bugs. When my tank was younger I worried about having to spot feed my coral banded shrimp. I would net a lot of the leftovers from my food and spot feed him and my bristle star to make sure they had enough food. Then I'd let my small amount of crabs and snails get the stuff I missed.

Worked great. But now with so many pods around... I know my shrimp is fine. Anytime he wants some food he can walk around and get tons of them. I still spot feed my bristle some... but that's no big deal. I feed my dendro daily anyways so a quick squirt from the syringe in his direction as well isn't a big deal every once in awhile. I just love the thought of food that doesn't decompose if it isn't eaten!
