i would stay away from hydrometers. (not very accurate) Ebay has some really affordable refractomoters, I got mine for like $35 and it works great. its has automatic temp compensation so there is not waiting for the correct temp. Plus if you do not know what temp the hydrometer was calibrated too then how do you know if the reading is accurate.

ive never owned a refractometer and never had an issue. 1.024sg is 1.024sg lol.

i use the deep 6 hydrometer from pet co/smart, its fairly cheap, i think like 9 bucks.

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753925&utm_source=googleproduct&utm_campaign=2753925&utm_medium=cse&mr:trackingCode=35CD2C64-C881-DE11-B712-001422107090&mr:referralID=NA

having said that, a refractometer is more precise, but i dont keep sps so i think i can get by with what i have now Smile

I actually have a deep 6 still in it's package. I bought it cause I thought about doing a brackish tank and figured I would need somehting to measue the salinity & SG, but never did do one.

I know it's a bit late since you posted this in Jan., but if you're still looking for one I can send it to you.
