Crazy Acclimation Story
So I picked up the mandarin from James today. Would be insane for a 29g, but he is eating mysis apparently so he'll be good. If he loses weight over the next few weeks Jason is going to keep him in his 220. Anywho... on with the hilarious story.
I water acclimated the goby no problem... but as soon as I put him in the tank he went to a dark corner... pretty typical. This dark corner however... was right below the coral banded shrimp and right beside the bristle star. The coral banded nabbed at him and he ran away from him by tucking in behind the rock... the same rock that the bristle star uses. The mandarin landed right on one of the bristle star's arms and the bristle wrapped him up and pulled him under the rock. I thought the guy was a goner 10 seconds after being in my tank. He got out a bit later and has been absolutely freaked out.
I've never seen this bad of tank hazing before. lol :-)

POSTCARD FROM MATT'S Tank
Dear James
When you said a vacation with lots of food I presumed I was the one to be doing the eating. Sure the waters here are nice, but the cliental at this place are, well animals!
Arrived and found a nice quiet room with a decent view, you know the sort, trying for some privacy as there is a big human staring intently, couple of smaller humans giggling and pointing and one of those other humans that shows interest but is actually also trying to make dinner, hopefully soon, so the small humans don't try to eat me!
So anyways, I found this nice room when all of a sudden these bloody legs start feeling me up!
"Hey" I said, "I'm not kind of Goby".
So I got the hell out of Dodge. Man I thought "What now?", when I saw a tidy rock, "OK that'll do".
Was that a mistake, I thought being felt up by some lecherous shrimp was bad, but darn it, this rock had something far worse, I mean what's a Goby to do..... it was like an octopus ... and dam it was all over me! Arms everywhere!
I've not been so molested since the time you put me in that holding tank... dam I miss that tank now.
I've escaped it, hence this post card, but next time you think of sending me on a nice vacation how about sending me to "Goby's Singles Camp?"
Yours sincerely Goby
p.s. Great idea, but somehow I've lost my appetite.
p.p.s. send return ticket home ASAP.

Re: Crazy Acclimation Story
I look forward to seeing more pics of him and your tank, and yes I need to post some of mine now it's inhabited and my babies are growing. Seems silly, but there I am saying to my girlfriend "Oh, the Verginalis has developed a black edge to its dorsal fin". Then I remind her which ones are which.

Re: Crazy Acclimation Story
So the continuation of the crazy acclimation story follows.
The other night before I went to bed I looked in my fish tank to check things out as usual. However... one thing was quite unusual. My mandarin looked like it had seen a ghost. Color was all white and washed out... just looked strange. I checked around to see why it may have been stressed and saw the bristle star in the place the mandarin usually called home. Not too big of a deal... except I saw the mandarin trying to get near there and the bristle star started putting the smack down on that thing! It would literally get two or three arms on the mandarin and push and pull it all over the place. I've felt those bristles... and they're not comfy! So I took a vote (my wife's vote has always been to pull that guy out of there)... mine was swayed by the recent events... and I yanked that guy out.
Matt's bristle star is now known as Jason's bristle star. lol.

Re: Crazy Acclimation Story
Oh by the way... it was a HUGE bristle star. Could easily stretch out and touch all of the walls of the 5 gallon bucket I had him in. Had to be near 12 inches.
