Wet Pets in Longview
I'll start this up I suppose. Wet Pets and Critters in Longview currently has a terrible reputation of dying fish and corals. They are also known to not change filters and membranes in their RO unit as often as they should so they're not a reliable source for good 0 tds RO water.
They do have a handful of products that are unavailable at other local fish stores... so it may be worth it to you to drop by and try to find something that you need quickly, but if you can wait a few days I would personally order online. Be careful with frozen goods as well... I've seen their freezer well above temp with an alarm going off a few times. If you happen to not be able to pass up something you see from them, I would absolutely dip, QT and maybe re-dip and re-QT... a third and fourth time couldn't hurt either. ;-)

It was the lick back in the 90's . They had a large tank in front with a mandarin that was HUGE !
I must say that the last few times I've been to L'view I was completely underwhelmed by the algae-covered corals and filter intakes covered with dead fish.
Anyone remember Palmer's ?

My bad. It was , like , the totally most bitchin' gnarly hangin' spot for , like, totally humongous populations of , like , dudes and chicks into , like, fish and stuff.

Definitely remember Mr Palmer. Dad and I both frequented the place regularly and were always pleased. Things got a bit dicey at the end as his wife's health deteriorated. And the whole thing folded up once he went into assisted living with her. Its a shame, because he always had a nice selection of fish and decent tanks. Now all we have a wet crud and crap and the 2 big box boys.
Also remember Mr Palmer at the nursing home my mom worked at after his wife passed...the old guy was quite popular with the ladies!!

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
I still go in there from time to time but its only me hoping that things are better but they never are. They've had the same rotten sticks of cyclopeeze in there for months and I won't buy them. You can tell they've been thawed and refroze. They just won't throw them out and replace them. I went in this week and saw a nice flame angel that I wanted but I couldn't bring myself to buy it even though I QT everything incoming. I'm giving up on this place altogether.

I saw that flame angel the other day and wanted to get it, but saw the Nigger rubbing against all the decor scratching himself and decided against the purchase. I agree that they are a weak fish store.

I stared at the flame for a while talking myself out of it. I saw it scratch one time while I was there and could see a few small spots on the tail. The tail looked nipped too. When I got back to work there was a flame angel on divers den so I snagged it. Should be here Tuesday.

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
The dyed freshwater fish are reason enough to pass on this store, shame they endorse such a barbaric practice, might as well start selling hairless cats with disney characters pre tattood on their asses.... atleast the cats would have a higher survival rate.

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
I stopped in this evening and they have a yellow tang covered in ICK and one eye is ripped outta his head with tissue hanging out. You would think they would isolate him and try to save him. he was swimming around but there was another that was pushing him around and slapping at him with his tail.

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
I've gotta borrow RO water from someone until Christmas. I've got the RO unit purchased, but it's sitting at my dad's house for me to pick up this Christmas when I go up north. This past week I was out and needed a water change so I grabbed RO water from them. Did the water change... in the next 24 hours got a decent GHA outbreak.
I've got 10g more from them sitting in the other room too. Just gonna dump it.

Matt, welcome to the club. No telling how long it has been since they changed their membranes, and check your nitrates too. When I started my newest tank took me three weeks to figure out where the nitrates were coming from. Almost guaranteed that it has them in it as well.
Let me know how much you need and when. More than happy to help you out.

Why not call the owner and ask him why he's selling dirty water? Ask him to get his butt in gear or drop fish sales. I'm sure his water is no better for fresh water tanks. Why not run some tests on the jugs you haven't used.

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
I have done both and that is how I figured out that it was coming from their system.
That coupled with price and quality are the reasons I only go there to visit. An occasional piece or fish can be picked up here and there for a reasonable price, but unfortunately it just isn't consistent enough for me to make it a regular stop.

She is not the most friendly lady, flat out rude at times. It's just not worth it to me. Even if they had good stuff the service is terrible most times.

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
opps, this is where my RO comes from, guess I need to find another in Longview, this could be some of the problems I have had even though I check my nitrates and other levels weekly. I have been partially successful with items from there a really good mushroom rock I picked up(looked a little weak) has blossomed great now. Any recommendations?

Re: Wet Pets in Longview
Alot of us have our own RO/DI units. I really don't know where would be better to buy water. I'm thinking Petco has pre-packaged water... just not sure on the exspense. Some mention the 5g jugs sold at Wal-mart or Krogers.
