Is my Moonlight too bright? Empty Is my Moonlight too bright?

Post by matt_longview Sun 12 Jun 2011, 8:53 am

So, just out of curiosity I'm wondering if my moonlight is too bright. Last week our power went out at my house and when NONE of the lights were on (no light for the chaeto, no moonlights... nothin) I saw things actually seem to close up for the night and my SPS (specifically my milli) really put their polyps out pretty far. So it got me wondering... maybe my moonlight is too bright. Since then I've switched my moonlight to a timer so it shuts off between 12:30 and 7:30 and when I check the tank at 7:30, everything is closed up and the polyps are out on the SPS.

Here's the moonlight I'm using: http://reefkoi.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20&products_id=1065

Let me know what you think! :-)

Looks pretty bright. Is there any way to put a dimmer on it ?
It would be nice if you could adjust the intensity on a regular basis so you could approximate the lunar cycle.

I missed the question due to an INTENSE light shinning in my eyes.

I thought tis question was about moon lights not solar flares.

That's hella bright. Try turning it off and see the difference in your lps. I've given up on moonlights, it's just for your appreciation. I don't think it hurts but my lps have tentacles wide open in the total dark.

The lps I've got are the frogspawn, hammer and torch. They are all closed up at night and open during the day. My duncan closes up much more when the moonlight is off than when it stays on overnight. My open brain hasn't put tentacles out yet, but looks prefectly fine. I would love to get that open brain to get out some.
