What salt are you using?
And what are your parameters and which tests are you using? I would like to know the numbers on a batch before it's added to your tank, (not your tank parameters).
1. Brand of salt
2. Specific Gravity
3. Calcium
4. Alkalinity
5. Magnesium
I used to use Coralife which tested at 1.025 about 520 calcium, alk 8 dkh, I don't think I ever tested magnesium on it but I've heard it's low. (I picked up a bucket of this on sale at Petsmart for $25 so I plan to test it again soon).
I now use Reef Crystals; 1.026 (Refractomer and Hydrometer), Calcium 480 (API), alk has varied from 8-10 dkh (Hanna), Magnesium in the 1300 range (Red Sea).

Everyone go freshwater or what? I find it hard to believe I see all these pics of nice reef tanks and no one uses salt.

Re: What salt are you using?
I switched to freshwater. Got this awesome pleco for the 10g... thinking about upgrading to a 20g. I mean... I've already got two bubblers. ;-)
I'll test a fresh batch of my reef crystals for you.
I'm likely going to switch over to Brightwells.

Re: What salt are you using?
I switched back to Reef Crystals a couple of months ago, I was using Red Sea Coral Pro. Results are below.
I switched from Red Sea salt because of the residue left when mixing, this stuff coated my mixing pump and everything else with calcium.
Red Sea Coral Pro
Salinity 1025
PH 8.4
Alkalinity 14 DKH
Calcium 480 ppm
Magnesium 1300
Reef Crystals
Salinity 1025
PH 8.3
Alkalinity 12 DKH
Calcium 460
Magnesium 1300
I got a good bucket of Reef Crystals salt this time and I really think my tank looks much better with the Reef Crystals than with the Red Sea.

Re: What salt are you using?
Thanks Donnie. I've been getting an alk of about 8 on RC and my new bucket is at almost 11. I'm going to mix up some Coralife today and test the numbers on that.

Re: What salt are you using?
Just tested a fresh batch of Coralife.
1.025
Calcium 520
Alk. 9.23 dkh
Mag. 1300+ (I admit I hate this test, once I get to 1300 I give up and call it good).

I only mixed up a 2 1/2 gal. bucket of it but it was very clean and dissolved nicely. Cheaper than IO from Foster and Smith. I may be switching to this salt when I use up all my RC. I can keep my alk dosing the same and not have to dose Calcium as often, if at all.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4864
Specific Gravity: 1.021-1.023
pH: 8.2 to 8.3
Calcium: 390 to 410 ppm
Magnesium: 1,110 to 1,250 ppm
Bump that up to 1.025-1.026 and you probably get the same numbers I got. I picked up a bucket at Petsmart in Longview for $22.99 or something like that. I don't know if they have anymore but I'll find out. I couldn't pass up a bucket of salt that cheap.

I was using Instant Ocean and now I am using reef crystals as well. Every since I started using them my algae problem has ceased.

Re: What salt are you using?
Reef Crystals
Mixed at 1.023, I'll raise it before using.
Cal 420
Alk 9.3
Mag 1050
And apparently dose mag before using as well!
