I didn't know what it was either, but researched and basically it looks to me like it's a larger tank with an internal box that contains all of the filtering (similar to all of the filtering being in the back of a biocube).

Some have wet/dry, skimmers, multiple chambers... ect. Just depends on how it was setup to begin with. Here's a little article describing it.

DAS = Dutch Aquarium Systems

Matt pretty much nailed it, filtration is internal. Pretty much like a huge all in one.
