Officially started work on the 10g AIO tonight. The future plan is for it to come out from the wall room divider style, viewable from both long ends and a short end. Clownfish pair and RBTA several months down the road. :-)

Finished all of my cuts. Everything fits fantastic. The rim on the tank caused me to change up the media rack. Instead I've got a few ledges built in that I'll just set pieces of egg crate over. Should hold everything just fine.

I'll post pics of the build tonight.

Are you gonna paint the area where the filtration is ? It will probably look much better if you do.

Right on Brian, I use black acrylic for my walls, that way the chaeto light don'tt shine through.

Matt, I have a piece of 1/4" black if you need it, also have a couple of pieces of 3/16" black abs.

I put some black acrylic on the inside to hide the filtration. I thought I'd rather do that than black spray paint. It looks a touch off with the silicone right now, but I think it'll look better when it's wet. I decided if it didn't look right I would likely build some wood pieces down the side of the canopy to hide the back.

These pics were taken yesterday. Today I cleaned up the teeth for the overflow, put in the 1/2 hole for the return and siliconed the main piece onto the front. I also got to finally check to see if my idea with the egg crate would work. Worked perfectly. :-)

Excellent work Matt! I can see now this one is gonna be nice, I like the clear spot you left for Chaeto. You using a nano glow in that spot or you building your own? That one I made for my pico would work great in there, you should buld you a light like that one, only cost a few bucks. What size return you using? I'll be following along also.

I was actually going to do the exact same thing you did with your pico for the fuge light.

144gph return. Will be replaced in the next 6 months or so. I got my Eheim compact pump for my 29g yesterday and it's very nice. I'll be getting one of them for this tank soon as well. I'm also going to get a new pump for my DIY reactor. I think the little 80gph pump I bought for it is just shot, won't push water through the media I'm stuffing in there. It'll only be used to mix salt now. lol

Thanks Jason. Copy all you want. You'll really just be copying my version of the hundreds of other 10g AIOs I researched. lol.

Got the canopy put together enough last night. Going to finish it later. I've got to put that last side on, drill a hole in the back for the cables to go through, a fan and cut some vents. Then I'll put the top on and fancy it up of course. I'm loving the tank though. And the minimal rockwork. I'm pleased. :-)

These LEDs are SO bright. When I change the settings enough to take a pic of the surrounding area the tank is TOTALLY washed out.

Depends on if the sand causes any cycle. I don't expect it to. :-)

I'm going to test later today and add a few corals. The fish will make it a little later, depending on tests.

The sand is fantastic. Even my wife mentioned it looking nicer. Lol

I like that sand too, it looks good in there as long as it don't start blowing around when you up the circulation. Thats the only reason I chose a rougher grade sand was because of the fine stuff blowing around. Tank is looking good so far.

This sand is so interesting... It's fine but it seems heavy. It doesn't float around at all. It does move enough to create some cool sand dune looking hills though. I'm hoping it doesn't move much, but if it does, I'll just keep the flow low. I don't have to please sps in this baby. Lol

I see the water in the tank is just below the rim of the hood, if you are like me and don't like seeing the top of the water there I will tell you how I fixed mine.On my pico and my JBJ both the water showed below the hood, just an 1/8" or so but enough that it bothered me so I went to Auto Zone and they have black 1/4" pin striping for cars. I got a roll for a couple of bucks and ran a strip of the pin striping around the top just under the aquarium frame, you can't even tell its there and it keeps me from seeing the water line and it blocks out the line of light that comes from that tiny spot and makes a ring around the room like a laser.

Thanks for the idea. I'll wait until I put the higher flow pump on there before adding it... it might raise the water just enough to hide it. :-)

I gotta ask, why you changing water with nothing in there? Need something in there to get the nitrates going huh? Back in the day we always added a piece of dead shrimp to the tank to get the cycle going. The tank has got to run a cycle to get all the beneficial bacteria going or else when you start stocking, it will cycle then, not a good thing. Or am I just missing something here?

I went ahead and put in a few "dirty corals" from the 29g. The green sinularia, favia, and a paly frag. The paly frag just was not doing well in the 29g... and I couldn't figure out why. Figured a change of scenery for him would be a good thing. The others are kinda dirty water corals so I'm quite sure they'll be just fine.

I'm planning on using the "dirty" (0 nitrate) water from my 29g for my water changes in the 10g, so I'm just wanting to make sure it's going to work well. I've always read you should NEVER use other tank water for water changes, but I'm wanting this tank to run a little dirtier because it'll be primarily zoas and stuff that likes dirty water (favias, softies). Just making sure old tank water isn't cursed or something... haha.

Since the rock is already cured, this should be significantly shorter than the typical cycle I'd think... :-) We'll see. Good news is... If anything starts to look a little off I'll walk it across the room and put it back in the 29g.

Tested the water tonight. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrates. Looking good. The corals I put in are all looking fine. I'm loving the color of this tank. This tanks LEDs are noticeably a more crisp white than the LEDs over my 29g. Not just the color temp, but... I dunno... something crisp. I'd say the color temp with both LEDs in this 10g is around 16k, but it's just a more crisp color. Maybe it's just brighter... but when I look at the 29g lighting now it looks a little less "wow".

Nope. No coralline. I really wouldn't mind the rock staying that crisp white. It looks so clean. With me adding coral frags, it's inevitable though. Lol.

I got the sand from Jason. It's live sand from Florida. It'll likely be in every single setup I do from now on. It's great.
