Nasty, brown hairy sand!!!!
Hey guys. im only about 5 weeks into saltwater, so im still learning.... my 75g. tank has brown hairs ALL over the sand and live rock!!!!! is this part of the cycle ???? or does my tank have a problem?

First of all welcome. Part of the cycle. I would give it 2 or 3 more weeks before I added anything. Is it a reef or a fish only?

Welcome aboard! I agree with Tony, its probably Diatoms, though Diatoms are not usually hairy, just brown like a rust on the sand. Can you upload a picture?

its a reef but i have only 2 corrals in it and 2 small fish .. i recently learned that i shouldnt put anything else in it because its new and hasnt finished cycling.. ill go take some pictures.

Those are the diatoms I was telling you about. Usual for this age tank. Next you will usually get green hair algae. Prepare to buy a clean up crew soon. Most people suggest 1 snail per gallon. I would at least go for 1/2 that minimum! Check out www.reefcleaners.org in a few weeks when the green algae starts growing. :-)
