How long can a tank go without your personal attention?
OK, so as you know I came home form the UK to find a wonderful 36 bow front tank here to welcome me, along with a very welcoming and loving Mrs Yeti.. ok maybe I should have prioritised that the other way around.
Anyway, as many of you know I have been avoiding going to the dark side, but this tank would make a beautiful Marine tank...arghh.
Now we come to the problem. For both of us to go to the UK, with only my FW tanks, that's easy. Major water change, clean canister filters etc, set auto feeders...or even trust a friend to come in once a day and feed them, and for 2 weeks all will be OK.
Our concern, yes myself and the good Mrs Yeti (she's becoming a fish geek bit by bit, and no one better post how to set up and keep a Seahorse tank or you will be Yeti dust :-) anyway, is can a marine tank be left to a "friend" to feed for 2 weeks? And how often would they have to come in?
My idea would be for the basics, cleaning crew, couple of clowns, maybe gobies and softie coral etc.
If it's not a feasible plan then the 36 will be FW. Think of a total newbie feeding the tank.... would you trust them if you went away for 2 weeks?

Personally... no I wouldn't trust a newbie feeding the tank. Thats only because I don't have to though. I know a few people on these forums who would gladly help me out. Good news, so do you! ;-)
If the only option was to have a newbie feed the tank I wouldn't let that stop me from going salt. Train them well before you leave, and leave things marked well. For a two week period you may only need to feed for times.
You could likely get someone on the forums to even come by and do a water change.

A good tank set-up will do fine with simple feeding and checking top-off water every.. two, maybe three days. In most cases, less is more. The less you "jack" with it, the better it grows. Simple things to "Automate" will reduce the need for personal attention and maint. Obtaining "GOOD" equiptment will provide peace of mind. Short of power failures... enjoy your vacation

You over-estimate me, sir. The only culture I have is in my daily yogurt.
