Overstocked 10g?
Would it overstock my 10g aquarium if I go with a YWG (Yellow Watchman Goby) and a single clownfish? Then I'd try to pair a pistol shrimp with the YWG and a BTA wih the clown. Too much?
What are ya'lls thoughts?

Re: Overstocked 10g?
I think you'd be fine except for the BTA, IMO. I just think it would be too much to handle in a 10. I think you'd even be fine with a pair of clowns and the YWG/PS pair. Adding the BTA might be a lot to handle. The clowns could get rough with anything in a 10 if they start breeding. I'm one to experiment though so I would try it if that was my plan to have in a tank and be prepared for the worst. If you feel good about it then do it. You know how to run a reef tank so if you feel you can do it then go for it. If you don't feel good about it then don't do it.

Re: Overstocked 10g?
I've never kept a BTA, but you're the second person to say yes except the BTA. You think a BTA would be too much in the 10g period... no matter what else is in there with it?
I'm really excited about the goby shrimp pair now. I never considered one for this tank until the other day. They're VERY cool and I had that planned for my big tank some day. Never imagined I'd be able to in a 10g.
So the new question (I'm going to put the BTA idea aside) is how deep does my sand need to be for the shrimp goby pair? I need to throw some rubble and some crushed coral in as well correct?

+1 on the goby shrimp. You can find some really small pistol shrimp sometimes. I did some googling and it seems to be VERY mixed reviews but most leaning towards it being a bad idea to put a BTA in anything smaller then 20g. Maybe if you found a really REALLY small one but it would outgrow soon. I know its tacky as hell but clownfish LOVE clay pots.

Haha. I'm not set on the clown fish. Honestly... without the BTA in the tank I'll likely go with a different fish... something I don't already have in my 29g. I'll research that out later. I'll add the shrimp goby pair first... hopefully next Friday! :-)
I'll wait a month or more before adding anyone else to the mix.

You could put a mandarin goby in. Great peace loving fish that are fun to watch. I can even help you train them on frozen food or pellets. But you will need some live food to start.

Re: Overstocked 10g?
I had one of those trained pretty well in my last tank. Ended up getting rid of it. I still occasionally hatched some brine shrimp for it and stuff. It was a fun fish for sure! I just had too many fish that were sitting on the rocks and hiding... I wanted some swimmers! Lol.
Maybe I'll go with a nice regal or yellow tang....
Just kidding! I am looking at a possum wrasse though. Check it out!

Re: Overstocked 10g?
So the availability list is in a and a new addition caught my eye. It's the best of both worlds... an absolutely stunning shrimp goby that will also stay smaller (max 2.5 inches) than a YWG. The Yellow Rose Antenna Goby.
Here's a random pic from google:
The shrimp will be a Red Banded Pistol Shrimp (also ideal because it stays smaller than the Tigers (Red Banded Maxing out at 2.5 inches also) and when I searched for a pic I actually found a pic of these two paired up.
I'm pumped!!! I'll decide for sure on their tank mate in the coming weeks. :-)

Re: Overstocked 10g?
My wife had a very VERY small RBPS and the smallest blue spotted watchman I'd ever seen matched up. Very fun to watch them.
I really like fire fish. Nothings wrong with 2-3 of them so you have something that swims around.
I also really like the possem wrasses but never owned one myself.

Re: Overstocked 10g?
good call on the randalls pistol shrimp, the Tigers are mean little mofo's. I have had both , the randalls lived in the display after the Tiger was bannished to the fuge. Lost both to the 2011 winter disaster.
