Didn't know where to ask but my starfish is doing a weird stand on it's tips thing and I read online it happens when spawning. Now it's the only one I have so do these reproduce even without a mate?

There are stars that can reproduce asexually and by brooding but the sandsifter only reproduces sexually. I had one for about 3 years, (it was one of the first thing I ever bought for my tank), and it did odd things that I couldn't explain but it never reproduced and I've never heard of one reproducing in a tank. It may be doing a "mating dance" but without a mate there will be no more star fish. Even if you had a male and a female the offspring would have to survive the plankton stage which isn't really possible in a tank.

There are plenty of stars that can reproduce in a tank but I don't think the sandsifters will reproduce in an aquarium. They are hard enough to keep alive as adults.
