Switching from 55gal to 90
just wondering, if i am wanting to put everything that is in my 55 into a new 90 gal except the crushed coral. i am wanting to switch to sand. can i just put the 55 gal of water, live rock, coral, new sand hopefully and fish into new tank and add the other 35 gallons of water and be ok??

You might see a mini-cycle, but if your LR is well establish.. it should be minimal. I've moved from tank-to-tank countless times without any real negative affects. Congrats on the 90

Personal taste for me is Florida Sand from the Destin area. I have it in my tanks and love it. Others will chime in too...

is it true that crushed coral helps keep your ph at 8.2 level? does sand do that or is that a downside to using sand?

As the lucky recipient of a part bucket of said sand, we have to agree, Mrs Y has it in her tank, and I am in the process of mixing it with my crushed coral to give me the effect I was hoping for.
Regardless, I have to totally agree, this is a beautiful sand, white under white lights, and gives a blue or purple effect depending upon the lights you are using.
From the Ph side, I have used crushed coral in my cichlid tanks, along with holey rock, and my Ph is great for Cichlids, being decidedly base. However that maybe due more to the rocks.

Congrats on the new tank! You should be ok to do as you said but just remember to airate the new saltwater for 24 hours before adding it to the tank.
