But didn't you see the cheap stand? The algae scrubber (wire mesh with a $6 lowes light)? The 5g bucket over HALF full of Live Rock?

That's straight quality...

I saw that also, looks like it's one of those massive 55G reef tanks, with some awesome equipment, although not sure what a "srcrubber" is.....but I NEED one!

Algae scrubber - simple terms. It's a piece of mesh where you grow tons of hair algae at on purpose. Growing hair algae on the mesh means you're not growing it in your tank!

They work, but they need to be huge. They shouldn't fit in a stand under a tank, that's for sure.

Your thinking of an ATS. Which can fit under a tank. Also its good for growing all sorts of algae not just hair. It will prevent hair algae to some extent though. You can clean them as well so size doesn't matter to as much as the light they need and GPH running over them.

I had a 80 gallons of water in total with an ASM G2, a sock and an ATS. which all ran into a refug before the return pump..... *sigh* I miss my old system.

I'm at a loss on the "Algae Scrubber". I've heard it more in the last two week... well , never before then. Got any pic? Now I'm just curious scratch

Ken should chime in here. He has one on hie 475. From what Ive read they are fabulous as long as you stay on top of them. They can crash and load your tank with a lot of toxins as they die off.

There called algae turf scrubbers. The idea is to put a low watt light on this type of netting and let algea grow on it. It will eat off all the nasties in your water like food and waste.

I did take my off in the end and noticed no change in my tank. But it was on, it worked I guess and I never had any bad issues with it.
