Re: Any Good Marine/Aquarium Shops in the East Texas area?
In Shreveport there's critterco in bossier and Aquarium Concepts off 70th. Critterco's tank guy (Butch) is a pretty good guy, the cichlids available are only juveniles though, they have a slightly better marine assortment. The prices on equipment are pretty scarey though.
Aquarium concepts has a great selection of cichlids, with some higher quality marine fish as well. Their equipment is on an on-order basis, and compared to online it's still very pricey. Scott knows his stuff though, and is helpful. Only bad thing about the place is I'm 99.9% sure the cichlids are hormoned. Every single fish is at maximum male breeding colors and finnage, which isn't right in a tank of 30 conspecific males in the same tank. I don't know this for sure though.
There's a third, petzone off Jewella. little family owned place. I'd stay away from the fish, they are usually in BAD shape. But the equipment is usually dirt cheap, if not a little old and dusty.
unfortunately in Shreveport everyone I know has to order their stuff.
