Hello Everyone,

I am new here. I have FW tanks no SW, yet. I registered bc of the "Get the word out" post on craigslist even though there were no prizes for FW.....I've been wanting to join but didnt know FW could so yeah!!

At present I have two 55 gallon, one 40 gallon, one 20, one 10. Wanting a 125 gallon.

Wanting to set up a SW soon, if I can get some advice and find some reasonably priced start up materials.

Welcome to the forums! I hope the freshwater sections get more active around here, so it's great to see new freshwater members! :-)

We still love to see pics of your tanks and info about the setup.

Hey GrimReefer,

Right now I have about 60 Orange Zebra, 30 Convicts, & 20 Ice Blue Red Fins breeding size. I have 2 Demansoni, 4 Lemon Yellows, 3 Yellow Labs, 2 Albinos, one Girraffe, one Jewell, and a few others. I have two 55 gallon cichlid tanks. One with adults and one for colorful non breeding tank. I am in the process of sealing and setting up a 40 gallon. I breed guppies to in my 20 gallon.

What do you have?

Welcome. I stand on both sides of the tank. I have 3 Cichlid tanks, 1 is male Mbuna's and Johannes, second is Peacocks with a Hap Virginalis Male (lost both females whilst they were still very young) and final tank is Australia, where the ultimate bad boys live, although I think my male Kenyi is probably the meanest of the lot, but he rules the 55G Mbuna tank.
Then I was lured into the darkside, and I have to admit it's frustrating, as the eco system is far more fickle than a Cichlid tank, but it's also far more rewarding.
I look forward to seeing some pics of your tanks.

Hey everyone,

I have decided to creep on over to the darkside!! I want to start out with a smaller tank to get my feet wet.

Any advice for a newby?

Cracks up. At least I fought it for nearly a year.

Matt has some links posted which are the Class 101 on Reefing. Read those, read everything after that, and then find out what really works!
I'm sure the others will agree, no two tanks are the same, so it's fine tuning, once your water is great. As Mrs Y says "We don't keep salt water fish, we don't keep and grow corals. We keep water, and when the waters correct, life is easy."

Thank you Yeti! I am excited. I went to Steven's today and bought a MegaFlow sump from him for my 160 gallon FW. While I was there I took a look at he and his wife's tanks. Also got to ask some questions. Left there and decided to give it a try!

I will get on the reading and go from there.

Yeti that is correct everything else will grow if the water parameters are good Smile and each tank is handled differently as people find what works best for them. I know when I setup my 130 I will change a few things myself from what I am doing now to make it easier.
