72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
I broke down and did what I said I would not do; build another tank. The wife ordered me a new 72 Gallon Reef Ready Bow Front today.
The plans:
* SPS Dominate - Maybe some Zoas, Chalice, Acan and Favia for accents
* Going with an open aquascape similar to the Bonsai style
* Same style sump as the one I have on the 125 Gallon
* 2 - 175 Watt or 250 Watt MH fixtures with T5 supplements
* Custom built stand and canopy to match the 125 Gallon
* MPS 150 Pro Clear Aquatic Systems skimmer
* The usual carbon and GFO reactors
* Calcium Reactor
Time to start filling this frag rack up for the build.....

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
I have not found any websites or many aquascapes that resemble a bonsai tree.... I got the inspiration from a picture I came across a few years ago.
The Inspiration for my 72G:
Unlike my last SPS tank, I will build this one with purpose. I have a particular aquascape, the bonsai style, and specific corals that I want to host.

So you're the one that got it.
Beautiful fish....also thumbs up on the purple firefish as well. That's something we are considering now that my wife has seen one in person.

Blame it on the wife.... Great Idea! Good thing she's Reef Safe! Can't wait to see it built. Knowing you and the misses, it'll be another show piece!

Ritter - Unfortunately, the firefish do have a tendency to sneak out at night and do some carpet surfing. That's a huge drawback because you either take your chances or install the ugly netting over your tank.
Jason - I am thankful that she is reef safe!! Sometimes, I think she is more addicted than I am. Even though, she said she was not going to help with this build. We will see about that. We know she cannot resist getting involved in a reef build.

tell me about this netting... i gotta picasso trigger that likes to jump and wanna put a reef light (open top) on the tank to get some corals growing in there with em in my predator tank (gonna try it... puffers/trigger may eat corals but ill try a few softies and see)

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
Live Rock...... We'll, Actually, it will be dead rock by the time I let it dry out for a few days. NO MORE AIPTASIA!!
55lbs. of Tufa rock, which naturally keeps the calcium up in the tank.
This is the first mock layout of the rock. Of course, the speaker wires will be replaced by some aquascaping materials once I finalize the design.

Wow. Very cool. Must have taken forever to drill through those rocks. My drill bits broke trying to get through mine.

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
Matt - A good masonry bit will bore right through it with no problem. A hammer drill also helps a lot on the harder rocks.
