55g mbuna stocking ideas
I'm going to be starting a 55g mbuna tank and would like some recommendations on stocking. I currently have two yellow labs and a kenyi, I will be returnig the kenyi after what I have read about their aggression. I will be running two 30/60g filters along with a pre-seeded sponge filter I have had in my 35g for about 6 weeks. For lighting I will probably use a single or double t12 fixture. Just going with a simple hardscape, rocks and sand.
Thanks ,
Duke

Is it a male or female kenyi?

It's only about 1.5" so I think it's too small to tell

You could vent it to tell the sex. If its a female I'd be willing to trade you a lab for it. Be aware my cichlids are over a year so some are getting big but I think I have one from a previous spawn about 1.5".

I've heard of venting fish to sex them but have no idea how to and don't want to injure the fish. When I get them transferred to the 55 you're welcome to come snag it.

Actually it's pretty easy. I prefer to catch my cichlids by hand. They don't really swim away and it's gentler. Alot better than hemming them up with a net in my opinion. Pm me your location if you really wanna get rid of it. Kenyi are some cool cichlids its just all about the sex ratio and hiding places

Re: 55g mbuna stocking ideas
I got on YouTube and actually saw how to vent the fish. I'm about 80% sure it a female. Thanks for the suggestion, it took me like ten minutes to catch it.

Well lemme know where your at if you want to get rid of her. I have too many male kenyi and am looking for some females. Or, your welcome to come by and see how cool they are bigger - you might want to get more!
