Macro-algae. Live Rock. Anything that's getting picked on by other tank inhabitants. :-)
But most importantly... macro-algae!

my sand bed is about 5-6" deep, and I have a clamp light from home depot with a 100w cfl bulb in it. works great and cheap

Cheato....calurpa...couple of good macro algae ideas. I've seen some using mangroves but haven't read anything about them yet.

Re: What to put in my refugium?
mangroves are great for nitrate reduction. Keep in mind that the grow up, LOL , and need room. Also make sure that there is plenty of room for root growth. I have seen a few open top tanks that the mangroves are actually in the display tank instead of the fuge, and grow up and out of the tank. looks pretty cool. also there are two grades of macro algaes - tank grade, and refugium grade. some people keep a bunch of macro algaes in the display and it looks awsome.
