Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
Hey guys, help me out here, I'm lookin for a timer tht I can plug in my main lights to and plug in my Chaeto light so that when the main lights go off the Chaeto light comes on. I know about the big ones like Matt and I have but I just want a simple plug in timer that works like this , two outlets that work opposite each other.

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
Yeah, that would do the same thing, I was really just looking for one with a single timer, and two plugs, when one was hot the other not and vise verse, but that will do to. THANKS!!!

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
I added rock today, not much room for aquascaping but it should be enough to filter the tank. I used old water from my tank, new sand with a spoonfull from my tank and added Chaeto in the back from my tank, I don't expect a big cycle so I added a few heads of Zoe's I had to see how they will do. I have come to the conclusion that this is going to be a partially sealed reef meaning the top pretty much seals off the tank from evaporation but since I have Chaeto and chemipure and floss it will be necessary for me to do at least weekly maintenance so not sealed. So far the temp is staying pretty steady even with all the lights on at 76.2-76.8.

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
I love following your project, the detail that you show, step by step, When this is all complete I would suggest we put this in a "How to" section, for anyone new to marine. I assure you I will be refering to this should my resolve ever fail to avoid marine.

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
Well, I got some nice sps corals in the pico now thanks to TonyT for his contribution! I just glued them in yesterday, now I need to collect names so I know what I have. Some of these are from my 28g, some from Tony.

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
Kinda looks that way! You know, I wish now I would have went with some live rock, I don't like looking at the dead stuff but with such a small gallon capacity, I didn't want any pests. Maybe at least I can get some coralline growing on the rocks but I haven't had much coralline growing under my other leds.

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
go buy a nice piece of live rock, even if it means a trip to Dallas. then bust it into pieces with a hammer and build your scape the way you like it. but I would replace a small but at a time to prevent a cycle effect from killing what you already have. or at least get a nice small piece from an established tank to help seed what you got.

Re: My next project a 2.5g pico reef! contest
Ok guys, I got my leds in today and been working on them, they gonna be cool. I got em finished and installed in the hood. It was after lights out that I finished but I got a pic of the moon light, its 1-1watt blue. I have 9-1 watt for daytime, 5 blue and 4 white. I'm posting pics of the light build and the moon light, I will post a daytime pic tomorrow after lights on.

No, actually I only have 3" front to back on the display and the light is a lil over 2", besides you would just have to see it, it puts out plenty of light in that small space. The high output leds are the way to go. I have a ten watt and checked it over my 28g the other day and it is almost as much as I have now. I have a ten watt blue on the way and I bet both these together would give as much as my JBJ. These ten watt leds cost me $7.99. They sent the first one white and was supposed to be blue so they sending me a blue free. The whole setup on the pico, I bought ten super blue and five white 6500k just to have extra and I got a driver for 6-12 1 watt and a driver for 1-1 watt for night light and they came with star heat sinks only cost $34.00.
