Re: starting another 120!
The black sand mixed with a little white looks really cool to, be waiting for pics, you got a lot to live up to with Jason's 120, he had it looking A++++. The 120 is a perfect size for a reef. You going sps lps or softies or a combination? What you doing for lights, LED or MH? should be interesting build to watch, keep us posted with pics.

Thats what I'm doing for my next tank
Re: starting another 120!
Oh yea! I am planning a SPS only tank and it will start fresh with boiled live rock. My goal is to build a tank with none of those stinking Aiptasia!

Re: starting another 120!
Just a thought. going black sand will also cut down alot of the reflection that you would have with white sand. Hence things will appear alot darker in your new system.

I had a 33g oceanic cube, and I put black sand in it. It was cool as a focal point of the system. I personally didnt like it as an overall view. I had a 150w MH on it with a 20K Radium, and it seemed like everything was waaaay darker. I couldnt get as much growth in it as I did with white sand. I would test it out if you could just to see if its something you would want to do. thats alot of money to spend to figure out that you dont like it.

Re: starting another 120!
the black sand is starting to catch on big time. Stay away from the taitian moon sand, it will stick to mag cleaners and scratch the glass. Go with the aragalive

There was a thread on RC in the mantis shrimp forum about someone that had this sand and it was getting into the cuticle of the mantis and it irritated it to death. The guy said it looked like it was scratching itself all day before it died. I'd would avoid that stuff all together.

Yea but with this being such a new site, a log would be very helpful to many of the new hobbiests for references to things like:
How to put a skimmer in and how to dial it in for best performance.
Lighting and how to set up timmers.
Plumbing in return pumps.
Rock scaping.
etc..........
just a thought
