New Maxima
I know this is not coral, but didn't see a clam section. Just picked this little gem up today while I was in Shreveport. He had 3 available and they were at a great price so I snagged this one. I will try and get a better pic once it acclimates and opens up a little better. It is much bluer than the picture shows.

Pet Zone. He has 2 more that are pretty sweet. They are only $50 which I thought was a great deal. They are only about 1 1/2". I can't wait till this thing gets some size on it.

I agree on the lights but you know my track record with the blue clams is not the greatest, will be interesting to see though. I got mine right on the bottom, my gold Maxima is about half way up and growing like a weed. I need the blue in the higher light and the gold on bottom as the blues need more light, oh well the gold is dug in, he aint goin nowhere.

Maxima is doing great, it actually looks like it has grown. When I bought it I put it on a rock on the bottom of the tank and it attached immediately and has been there ever since.

Re: New Maxima
Does the color change like that when you're looking at it as well, or is that just a camera trick?
Very cool clams guys! I literally took a pic of yours Tony and sent it to a guy and said "I want a clam that looks like that." He's going to send that to his aquaculture guys and they're going to hand pick me one from one of their 8' by 100' vats. :-) whoo hoo!

Re: New Maxima
It really cool, I don't know why but if you look at the clam from the front through the glass it is darker, looking from above with no glass it is much lighter. I guess its the way the light is striking the clam makes the difference. From above it looks almost exactly like Tony's. I noticed his pic is from straight above also, it just the way the light is reflcted back.

Probably not Matt, here's a pic of my gold from above, still looks brown but it is growing real nice.
Here's a pic of both blue and gold Maxima's in the same pic.

Re: New Maxima
Does the brown have a blue insides?
Regardless I have to say that clams look to be beautiful additions, how big should they grow?

They do have bluish streaks in the center and also on the mantle mine has some bluish dots. I think under sunlight or MH's the gold would have more actual gold color to them as I can shine a flashlight on mine and the gold color is more evident. There are some colors that don't reflect as much light with leds and gold is one of them, reason being I guess is because leds have no ultraviolet radiation to them like sunlight or MH's. This is good in a way that they don't actually burn corals but under leds the corals don't produce as much reflective Zooxanthellae to ward off the ultraviolet light so some colors don't glow as much. Don't get me wrong, I love my led lights and would not switch simply because of the benefits of led being no heat, they should last about ten years without replacing bulbs like MH and florescent, and no matter what anyone says, they do use a lot less electricity, not just the leds themselves but also in the use of a/c's and chillers needed to cool the residual heat from MH and other lights.
