Post by JamesB Thu 22 Mar 2012, 1:13 pm

Looking at buying a few corals. Small colonies or frags as I want to watch the growth take place. I am mainly looking for softies. Zoa's/polyps/maybe a leather or 3. Anyways let me know what you have or will have.

Want List:
1. Purple/Blue Mushroom
2. Red/bright red mushroom
3. Green Star Polyp
4. Radioactive, Dragon's Eye, Eagle Eye's....
5. Devils Hand, Toadstool (would like green, but let me know), Finger Leather, Kenya Tree

That should give people an idea at what I am looking for, but if you think you got something I might want let me know.

Jim

Tough question....it's 3 hours away about 160 miles. But, I would drive to the ends of the earth for corals, haha. Thats google maps too, so that 3 hours can be done a lot faster, heh. What do you have?

James,

Here is a quick list. Gotta guyswingin by tomorrow so list may change a bit but nothing dramatic. Let me know if anything interests you.

No pics right now butvi have a few things I can do as mini colonies at $25 each:
Pink birds nest
Ponape birds nest

Sour apple birds nest
German blue polyped digitata

These mini colonies will be from multiple large brags glued to the same plug. All will have multiple branches (7 to 10). They will be cut once you decide if you want them. I have several other things that I can do 1 inch frags of.

Tinker bell acro
Elec green cats paw
Nice blue acro
Peach shaggy milli
Green slimmer
Tri color frog spawn 2 heads
Red monti (small to large pieces)
Green mont (small to large pieces)

Hey Jim.

I can put you down for a superman mushroom through the coop. I don't have any good pics, but they're just like this one.

http://www.lareefs.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=136

It'll be one mushroom, about 1/2 inch wide. The coop basically means you grow them out and let them reproduce in your tank and once you've got plenty you give them away for free to others as well.

I've also got a devil's hand leather I'd be willing to get rid of. I don't know how much they go for. $10? I'd say it's an inch and a half wide, but it's getting blasted with light in my tank and will likely expand significantly when removed from the high lighting. Mine doesn't yet have the fingers growing up from it like pictures online. It looks like a club. :-)

I'd got a mean green zoa mini colony I could frag from as well. Let me know how many polyps you'd like. $1 per polyp?

This is what they look like under actinic lighting. The skirts on these are more of a brown color under typical lighting, but the green circle is still very colorful.

Very interested in the one's in bold. Now we need to set up a meet, heh.

Trying to stay away from the SPS's and you guys come in here with all these great pieces.... Sad , the one's in bold I am thinking. Shoot me a price list on these guys and I will get back to you on how much the boss will let me spend...LOL. Also, let me know a good day and time and I will make a mass pickup from everyone, if it can be lined up like that, but if not it's ok too.

Will take the leather and would take a frag of the mean green. 5-10 polyps? Would love a Superman shroom, but we can talk about that when I come get the corals, heh.

I would hold off on SPS for now bud (I just remember you posting that your cycling tank still had some ammonia readings). Tony and William both have some great stuff when you're ready though. I've bought from both of them and they're amazing!

I agree with Matt, if your tank is cycling out or high ammonia I would wait till everything is in check before spending any money on SPS. I will have plenty whenever you get ready though. I would do $10 frags except on the galaxia, it's $30. It's about 1" X 2", maybe a little bigger.

New rock I bought has some ammonia and nitrates, the tank has been cycled and up and running for awhile. Thanks for looking out though. Kind of funny the first 25 lbs of rock had no ammonia or nitrates and now this batch does....sure would have been nice to have that the other way around when I was cycling the tank....oh well. I forgot to add, the rock is in a separate container curing, not in my display tank. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah new rock will cause the tank to recycle. I just didn't want to see you grab some things and have them die off on you. That's even worse! Your tank will be ready before you know it though! :-)

Well crap. I thought that was the whole purpose of keeping it out of the tank until the rocks are ready to go in? Should I just toss them in the tank now or wait till the water in the other container reads no ammonia, no nitrates?

Ohhhhh... wait a second. When you say you're reading 2 ammonia in the other thread that reading isn't from your display tank? I thought you had added rock to your tank already and it was cycling in your tank. My apologies!

If you add cycled rock that's much less of an issue. You will still likely see some diatoms when you move the rock from tank to tank, but your corals should be okay. I'd try some birdsnests and digitatas at first to see if it's stable, but you'll be ready for SPS much sooner than I was thinking if it was cycling in the display.

You are right on track. That is the whole purpose of curing in a separate container. Once the rock is cured I would slowly add the rock to the display over several days as a precautionary measure.

Woohoo!!! I have done something right for once. Great and thanks guys, I was having a hard time expressing what I was actually doing I guess, LOL. Matt, I am going to stay away from most SPS for awhile anyways, a monti cap or two, green slimmer that sort of thing but mostly soft hardy corals, until I get a better understanding at what my final goal is. And who knows I may just be able to talk the little lady into another tank just for a SPS dominated tank Wink

Matt, Grawlfang, Grimreefer, J. Davis, all of you guys live close enough for me to make a pick up if we can get that bad boy scheduled. I can hit Marshall on the way back from Longview. I am ready to stock up this tank if you guys are ready to get rid of some coral. Let me know a good day for you guys. I might can do Friday or Sunday....maybe a weekday just depends on what you guys got going on. Let me know.
