227g Equipment List Empty 227g Equipment List

Post by matt_longview Wed 18 Apr 2012, 12:58 am

Hey guys,

This is my random equipment list. I'm putting it here to gain advice if you see any and possibly get some used stuff... as well as keep myself organized. :-)

So here we go.

Tank: 227g 72x27x27" w/ PVC bottom. Not yet reef ready. Purchased.

Not Reef Ready, so I need internal overflows. I'm considering these: http://www.ebay.com:80/itm/Aquarium-Overflow-box-/300635954851?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item8bb492785f&autoredirect=off

What thoughts do you guys have on corner overflows vs overflows that are three sided but away from the corner?

Lighting: potentially 3 or 4 of the LED fixtures that many of us already have. The 120w fixtures. Dimmable if possible, not required. I'm thinking I will group three of the led fixtures closer to the center and do my sps all over the center, high on the outsides with lps low on the outsides. Then in the corners of the tanks do deepwater acans and other lower light lps. Sounds good in theory... ?

I'm also considering running my biopellets in line with the skimmer. I think 400-500gph should be plenty for the skimmer and that's what the biopellets call for. I'd like two other reactors plumbed in that could be run via the return pump. I think brs reactors would mount well. Would you guys rather have a brs style or a tlf style? I'd like to go next reef there if possible. Little more cash! Lol

Personally I like the corner overflows because I can see in them when things get in them. I think it would be difficult catching a fish blindly.

Are you building the sump or gonna buy one, I can't remember. Lol

Personally I prefer corner overflows too, not only the fact that you can see if anyone has jumped in, but also the fact that I tend to view the centred as something of an eyesore, whereas the corner overflows seem to in effect frame the back of the tank.
I would expect with the water movement you will be planning within the tank, that the corner position as opposed to a more central position, will not be a problem for circulation of the water through the sump etc.
No scientific data to back that up, just personal opinion.

As for buying them. Are you sure that you can't buy a sheet of black ABS, use a router to cut the slots, then heat form it with a major saving?
I have the router you can use buddy.

I thought about cutting my own, but decided I'd rather have them be perfect. No reason to cut corners on a 227g!

The sump is a manufactured sump. Got it from Jason. :-)
