Starting new 90G setup
Pics will be coming this week. I have most of the items just not all together
90G RR long (6')
Stand- working on this now
Looking at 2 refugiums with overflow from one to the other(I have the main one already looking at different ideas)
ATO
New Protien skimmer not sure which one yet (looking)
CA3000 Pump
2 - Koralia 4 powerheads
2 - 16k LED
Sandbed
established LR
Reactor (550) for phospate control
Will probably have to look at dosing ideas also since I will have SPS/LPS in the system.

Re: Starting new 90G setup
Thanks I can't wait until I can make the light hood and mount everything inside Yesterday morning was the first morning with LED's running I would assume with the move, 3/4 fresh salt water, new lighting etc.. that would be why everything is not opening like normal yet but those feather dusters are loving it and have been open since I put them in the new tank with higher current. and the anemome is hiding he normally sat on top of the big center piece but since LED's have been on he moved to a new location I have yet to find Looks like I lost the green monticap in the move I will wait and see..
I moved the rock wall with the brain and red monticap to wifes tank and fixing up 3rd LED with 72W for her's
Thinking of changing from a constant and dimmer to 2 constant drivers to run both sets, with a rocker switch thats on/off/on that way I can run full LED or half of each as the lights don't appear to be overly bright (72W each) as you can see on the left side. If I do this I need to add a resistor and fuse to each string that way the LED's are protected if I have full power and one goes out the fuse blows not the LED's. (opinions on that idea?)
I will post more pics this weekend after I get everything else running in the refugium.

Re: Starting new 90G setup
Just got my ATO setup on this, hope to get my skimmer this weekend starting to get some brown foam in my refugium.
3rd LED up and running on wife's tank but I need to get a longer heat sink going to put a 4"x30" (9" spare per side this way should cover just fine) 2 strings of 12 for the corals in her tank.

Re: Starting new 90G setup
I have changed my powerheads to a voyager 4 (2100/GPH) and and Koralia 2 (960/GPH) awesome cross current now, enough to move the sand bed around
I have the protein skimmer running nicely now powered with a ca3000 (have already removed 1/2 gal of junk).
With the open top on the 90G my ATO goes through 2.5G in 2 days.
Now the question is should I be dosing? with all the corals I have in the tank? I am still trying to get a RKL or RKE reasonable to help monitor my PH, salinity, and temp as a min. might add an ORP or other probe. Is there a probe or monitor that will watch calcium, dkp and magnesium?

No way to know without testing. I think there is a calcium monitor that costs about $200. I don't think there is one for alk or mag.
I can tell you this to help you get started though. Test alkalinity often, very often, at least weekly if you have sps, clams or serious coraline or LPS growth. Alk is the first to be used up when corals use it to build skeleton and the most important to keep stable. Too low and sps will RTN/STN. Too high and they will get burned tips. You can't move it up or down too fast either.
Calcium is used more slowly than alk. If I remember correctly 20ppm is used for every meg/l of alkalinity (7ppm cal. per 1 dkh alk.)
Magnesium is the slowest to be used. I dose alk in my ATO and Calcium with a dosing pump everyday but I haven't had to dose Magnesium yet.
Basically watch your alk and dose as needed and once it starts to increase watch your Calcium then Magnesium. This is all considering that you do frequent water changes.

Re: Starting new 90G setup
ok cool, I don't think I can dose using my ATO as I got thought 2.5gal every 2 days. I am looking at a triple dosing pump means I will need 3 containers but I can monitor all 3 at the same time. I will have to post an updated pic to show what I have but this is a rough list:
2 - 2 head hammers
1 - 2 head medium size tourch
1 - 4 head frog spawn
1 - 6-7 head duncan
1 - bubble coral had 3 heads down to 2 for some reason?
1 - small 2 head toadstool
4-5 Zoa colonies 10-20heads each
2 - Yellow polyp leathers (Devils hands)
2 - Feather dusters (1 looks like its getting 2 crowns/splitting?)
20 - misc mushrooms (purple, green, blue, and striped)
1 - healthy green monticap (2")
2 - monitcaps that I don't think made the transition left them in just in case.
10 - misc SPS have no clue what they are (most are frags still 2 are about 3" (would be willing to trade for other LPS I don't have or different colors)
2 - Green hairy mushrooms
1 - frag of blue star polyps about 15-20 on it and looking good
1 - large green carpet anemone (10-12") still hasn't fully settled in has moved to three different locations around 1 rock. (currently when extended only about 1" from the SRTA)
1 - SRTA (4-5") oh the maroon clowns love this anemone!
1 - Sebae that I can't find he's hiding really good since the LED's went online
my LED's I have moved up to about 10-12" off the water, I had them closer but things started to bleach out.
I have dimmed them down also to 12 -3watt on each since I loaned one to Brent (hope they look good and are working) and I had to steal a driver for the marinland retro for my wife's tank since she now has the rock wall with my brain, monitcap, GPS and some mushrooms.
I hope to get another driver for the one LED and start making my hoods by the end of the month.
