Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
Sorry Win! Didn't mean to overlook you. Nylon bird net is what I have seen on a few of my friends tanks in Dallas. I have also heard of screen for a door being used but I would be afraid of that blocking too much light. Maybe it doesn't though??

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
well after testing a piece of a very very fast growing xenia lastnight, the triggerfish immediatly DESTROYED it so no worries about it now. its decided. no corals at all, so no reason to go open topped (was gonna put a reef light over the tank) my puffers oddly enough dont seem to have any intrest in coral, they will however eliminate my cuc.

Nice fish! Where did you get it? I tried to find a juvi a while back but I could only find the ones that were blue already.

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
I got him at PetCo the other day. I think they have another one up there.
They will turn different colors depending on their environment (stress - tank parameters - other fish - etc.). They also change colors as they mature.

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
Really starting to take shape B. I would like to do something similar after the move. Maybe in a larger tank. I really want to get a brand new tank, Acrylic would be nice.

It will be stained black just like the 125g stand. It will be covered and trimmed just like the 125g also.

Re: 72 Gallon Bow Front - SPS Reef
Did you put any 2x4s in the center, or just using the ones between the 4x4s? Notched the 4x4s out for the 2x4s or did you use 2 2x4s screwed together?
1/2 or 3/4 ply on top?
Looks well made, nice work.

I used pvc pipe to connect the rock and epoxy putty to bond the rocks to the pipe. The rock is just dry rock.

I will not have a center brace on the tank. It will be open just like the 125g stand. The legs are 2X4's screwed together. It's never a good idea to use 4X4's for legs. Just go out and check out the posts on a privacy fence. They almost always bow. The plywood on top is 3/4".
The stand will gain more strength after the 1/2" covering is wrapped around the 2X4 structure. It's really over kill to be honest. However, it's a lot easier to build a tank stand this way.
