Tank was rescued from the tank graveyard in my closet. Still have a bit of cleaning to do to get it 100% ready, but its coming along.

Re: Project PICO
doing things a bit different this time. I couldnt find a bulkhead small enough for what I had in mind so I decided to go with this :
It is 1/2"x1/2" john guest bulkhead union. I will be using 1/2" john guest tubing along with an inline ball valve to adjust flow as needed. The bulkhead did not come with a gasket so I did what most reefers hate and used silicone to secure it to the galss and ensure a water tight fit.
Here are a few quick pics :
And here is where I shed blood making the sump :

Re: Project PICO
Great to see you back. And with an innovative build too. I like the look of the sump, plenty of flow, but also looking as though it should be quiet too.
With LED moonlights, it should be hypnotic, and getting to sleep will be no problem...... then again with a toddler around the house I guess falling asleep hasn't been an issue for a while.

Re: Project PICO
looks good, I make my own gaskets for the bulkheads I buy the 1/4" rubber sheet from Lowes and cut it out, of course I always use silicone in the end just to make sure

Re: Project PICO
OK so, I have been testing water daily looking for some signs of any potential cycle and have come up empty. Rock is about 5-6 years old and has been making the journey through all of my previous tanks. It has been wet the entire time so I'm not expecting much from that. My concern is that I used 100% new water , and about 2# of new carib-sea live sand. 1 week in, still no sign of diatoms or anything. SO, if my tests tomorrow show the same , I may add a few zoa frags this weekend and see how things go. I will continue testing and have things ready just in case I end up with a surprise cycle. I did add 5ml of MB7 on day one and again on day 4 , at an attempt to help with the bacteria population.
Let me know if you think, I may be jumping the gun here.
Thanks
