Bulb Recommendations Empty Bulb Recommendations

Post by Andrewjh1987 Thu 22 May 2014, 12:41 am

I have a 29g tank that's 18" deep. Today I got a good deal on some corals and bought a frogspawn, purple stylo, some zoas and some flower pots. Right now I'm just using a 2 bulbs that are each 31 watt (an actinic and a 10,000k). I plan on adding another fixture with 2 more bulbs bringing my total up to 4. So I was wondering what the bulb recommendations are if using 2 and 4 bulbs. And also if any brand t5 are interchangeable (i.e. using ati bulbs in a coralife fixture) because I have heard better things about the ati bulbs. They also have more options on spectrum. I'm thinking about using an aqua blue special, 2 blue plus and a purple plus. Also any suggestions on setting the timers on the fixtures since they will be on 2 separate ones. How would you recommend configuring the fixtures? I'm pretty new to this and wanna get it right. I really like my new corals.

Now that I'm looking around some I'm not seeing any 30" bulbs anywhere. They jump from 24" to 36". Is coralife the only company that makes 30" bulbs?

i would just get a led fixture...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Dimmable-120W-Aquarium-Coral-Reef-Fish-Tank-White-Blue-LED-Light-BLACK-Shell-/360931597565?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5409331cfd

you will spend more than the cost of this led on a new fixture and 4 bulbs at $20 each and changing them out every 6 months to keep the spectrum correct. thats $160 a year just for bulbs.... i have the above light over my jbj 28 dimmed to 20% power and its more than i need. and if you ever upgrade you can crank it up to full power and you wont need a new light. many members here use the same light and swear by them. just my 2 cents.
