Petco has a few mixed reviews from around the area. Some people have had some bad experiences and stay away from them, but I think the general group around here are pleased that they have the limited selection that they do... and that they put much more effort into the well being of their system and inhabitants. Limited saltwater selection is their primary downfall. Very limited in nearly every area for saltwater... very few skimmers (if any?), powerheads, lights (no fixtures, just bulbs), salt mixes, fish, corals and other hardware. Occasionally you can find some really great deals there and in general the employees know a reasonable amount about marine systems.

My first experience with Petco was a bad one. I stood in line for an hour waiting to purchase some fish only to have the kid tell me "sorry, man" and go to lunch. I started to bag 'em up myself but I figured that wouldn't be well received at the check out. Laughing

As far as equipment goes , I shop on line or patronize the small independant shops. We have only one LFS here in MP so I try to buy something every time I go there (whether I need it or not).

Where is the LFS in MP? I've seen several come & go (grew up in MP so I try to keep up with where everything is).

How long's it been since you visited ? It's on the south side of 67 ( heading west from where the original Dairy Queen was ) just before you get to what used to be Calvert's. I think it was originally an auto parts store.

I go through there on my way to Leesburg about once every other month. I didn't know they had a new one since the one that moved (shut down?) over next to downtown. I'll have to check out the new place. We don't have anything worth visiting over here in Texarkana.

Because I did not have a good experience when I went there.

Tanks were pretty green! Did not look healthy, and the one guy grabbed a couple gold fish and tossed them In his only tank that look nice and clean, just to show me and my wife his fish eat! It would be nice to have something local, but my wife and I were not impressed.

He gets a lot of FW "rescues" from people whose fish have outgrown their tanks so that might be the explanation for the green. Honestly , I don't look at the FW tanks much. Was it an oscar or a lion ? I try to explain to everyone I meet that goldies aren't a good food but (unfortunately) they're cheap enough that most folks would rather use them than something more appropriate.

Sorry, I should have said, I am in to the Saltwater tanks, did not look at the FW's.

The goldfish were put into his show tank, It was not the fact that he was feeding them, I just think that it should have only been done if I was interested in a fish and wanted to see it eat, and not cause he thought it was cool to do. This is what I got out of my visit
