New from Lindale

hey folks i found this forum and looked around and like it alot, and can maybe use some info that yall have. I have two 55 gallon tanks. The first one has been set up for 8 months its a community tank with guppies,mollies,3 pictus,3 lace (feathertail), and a few dwarf gouramis. My 2nd tank im starting to hate it has been up 4 months and i have to do water change every 2 weeks, infact it needs it now. it has 3 oscars and im thinking of redoing the tank. My tanks are very bland compared to most of yalls. Any ideas. i like cheap DIY stuff.

i know they are kinda newbish tanks but im just starting out

My oscar was ten inches long in nine months. After a year, it was a foot long. When my two got around seven or eight inches, they tried to kill each other bc they were feelin crowded, so i upgraded to a bigger tank. I can tell you with certainty you will need a tank upgrade or to rehome the oscars. They are very messy fish and make a bigger bioload than most. I think my fiftyfive lasted about a year before a change was mandatory, in the mean time you will be a slave to your waterchanges lol. Just speaking from experience. Btw that hob filter will never support one grown oscar, let alone three, so be prepared fo those upgrades.

Welcome Bobo, nice to see an FW new member (even if you are getting drawn to the dark side aka SW)

Oscars = Water changes, tank replacement and if not careful when feeding, bitten fingers.

If you decide to stay FW there are plenty on here that can offer some ideas, and if you go African Cichlid, then even more ideas and help.

Ya im keeping 2 FW and maybe 1-2 SW. Im gunna change the oscars out to a african tank and upgrade filters. And thank u very much

I love oscars, they have great personalities, but they are large heavy fish and you need equipment that can handle it. Lol yeti, if you look me up on youtube under the name spawntriad, i have a vid of my oscar biting my hand at feeding time lol.... id post a link but i dunno how from this phone.

nah u didnt turn me against them. i have been on the page of getting rid of them for the last couple weeks cause irelized this 55gallon just aint big enough. and ya i love how the eat out of ur hand all 3 of mine will and nip ur fingers.
