I'm trying to figure out a way to mimic sunrise/sunset without buying $300 worth of equipment. I figured it should be rather simple... all I need to do is find something programmable with the ability to brighten and dim over time. I think I've found it.

X10 is used to automate and control appliances and lighting throughout an entire house. Usually cables are run through all of the walls that allow the base (usually a computer) to control everything. However, I've found a small alarm clock that allows you to control up to 8 X10 units. Primarily used for people who are working 2nd or 3rd shift to be able to wake up to a light that starts out dim and slowly gets brighter to create a "sunrise". Here are the items that would be needed:

XPMT4 Mini-Timer - It's the item you program to send the on/off and dimming signals.

LM465 Lamp Control Module - It's the item that receives the signals, and sends the power to the lamp that's plugged into it.

With 1 XPMT4 & two LM465's I would be able to control my dimmable par 38 & par 30 bulbs to mimic a sunrise/sunset for approx $50. I would also be able to dim each bulb (one is approx 12-14k the other is actinic, blue & uv LEDs only) to create any color temp I chose.

Does anyone have any experience with X10 programming and equipment? Does anyone see anything that throws up a red flag thinking that this won't work? For $50 I'm going to have to try it for sure!
