Re: hello from China
Likely because of the "apollo 12" LEDs that were linked from our forum here.

Welcome to the forum Miya, tell us a little about yourself.. what kind of tank? Reef tank by your pic. Being on the otherside of the world, you must have different ways of doing things.. Always interested in seeing others set-ups
Re: hello from China
Miya, Matt is very cheap, which is why he makes his own lights, he taught Scrooge how to be tight-fisted. Rumour has it that he uses candles instead of LED's.

Yep. Too cheap to buy them though... got my own bee hives for the wax needed. Check it: http://www.beeswaxreeflighting.com/

Re: hello from China
i am a person interest in aquarium, but not the tank,i am interest in something else,i just use the tank for test, for, what can i do let the reef and coral, fish grow well and look more beatiful?just do much experience, and it is also my work to do this, but i am also interest in learning much of coral and reef and so on,may be i can learn more from someone in the forumJ.Davis wrote:Welcome to the forum Miya, tell us a little about yourself.. what kind of tank? Miya,
What PAR do the lights you use give & what wattage are they?

Re: hello from China
aha, LED lights is not so easy as it seems,it involves so many factors to do LED lights, like circuit lines, ratio and so on,how can you Matt make by himself without testing and use candles intead of LEDYeti wrote:Miya, Matt is very cheap, which is why he makes his own lights, he taught Scrooge how to be tight-fisted. i can open your link, but i feel sorry for your mistake,it seems you have make a worse decision, iso many people use them work very wellmatt_longview wrote:Yeti wrote:Miya, Matt is very cheap, which is why he makes his own lights, he taught Scrooge how to be tight-fisted. I was just joking. I'm not using candles. I am using LEDs. I also did just create my own fixture with meanwell drivers and Cree LEDs. It's gorgeous.
Also very strange to hear 2000par. That's way too much for corals and will burn the highest light corals... even acros. Unless of course the spectrum is off and the LEDs don't peak in the best spectrum... between 440 and 460nm.

Re: hello from China
strange?so do you think LED aquarium light just can make of 460nm and white,i also use red specturm for my light, because i have a tank with fresh water,so red specturm is necessary, this is what i measure in the air,and the ratio is 660nm:460nm:14000k,how can you measure the par under the water
Re: hello from China
miya wrote:strange?so do you think LED aquarium light just can make of 460nm and white
Yes. Very popular. The royal blue (~450nm) LEDs hit a great growth spot for both coral chlorophyll a & b. And since white light is created by combining all colors in the spectrum, red spectrum is produced by the white LEDs. Although, there is more red spectrum in natural white LEDs than cool white LEDs.
No red spectrum is necessary to grow corals. In natural sea water the red spectrum is nearly non-existent below 10m, and is truly gone below 40m. Corals receive almost no red spectrum in their natural environment. Coral chlorophyll CAN grow under red spectrum, but so can algae. I would prefer to leave the red spectrum out and concentrate on the 450nm spectrum that corals can grow under and algae can't! Sadly any light that is "white" will HAVE to have some red in it... and algae is simple enough that even a little light is often enough light. :-)miya wrote:i also use red specturm for my light, because i have a tank with fresh water,so red specturm is necessary
You'd need to purchase an external sensor and make sure the sensor's housing is waterproof. Here's an article on par meters for reef tanks. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/7/reviewmiya wrote:this is what i measure in the air,and the ratio is 660nm:460nm:14000k,how can you measure the par under the water
Typically measurements taken through air are more accurate to compare fixtures as once you go below water there are many factors that will change from tank to tank (light being bent by surface waves, water clarity... even algae on the glass will reduce it's reflectiveness).

i think you don't want me to go to bed,i will give nobel to you if i can,
if fact i have a red spetrum for coral,it works very good, red is non-exestent in the salt water, but i have tell before,i have a tank with fresh water,it is important for waterweeds and reef

How did you even find this forum? Did you do a search for the smallest group of reefkeepers in one of the hardest areas to do it?
