PETCO LONGVIEW REVIEW Empty PETCO LONGVIEW REVIEW

Post by Cichlid Lover Sat 02 Jun 2012, 12:39 am

My experience with PetCo Longview has been positive as far as standing behind their product. As a freshwater tank keeper I have purchased several guppies and cichlids. I had some trouble with the guppies, but the assistant manager was kind and replaced the fish that I had the problem with.

My saltwater experience has been good as well. In that, today I went into the store and was so wanting to add a fish or something alive to my dull and boring tank. The assistant manager was there and I mentioned that I was anxious to add a fish to my saltwater tank. He asked me what was in the tank and how long the tank had been set up. I told him a snail and some crabs and he immediately said "usually you dont want to add any fish for 3 or 4 weeks, it's too soon."

I know that they dont have the largest FW or SW inventory. But hey its a chain.....I see it like they are the 7-11's of the fish store world.....if your in a pinch and cant go to Tyler.....PetCo is available and every once in awhile they have super good clearance sales.

They have also honored petco.com sales prices for me.

Honestly I think they're great except for the selection. That's not really their fault though, and they will custom order for you. They have a reasonably sized custom order selection.

I heard Terry's story where they accidentally sold a fish that he had asked them to hold. I've also heard a few ich stories, but it's my opinion that if the fish was properly chosen without ich and quarantined that those issues wouldn't have happened.

For those to be the only complaints I have ever heard.. They're doing a great job.

Ya that fish just wasn't ment for me. Lol other than that time.
We haven't had any issues with them.

One lady up there did tell a couple that they can have a tank running
In a week with no problems. I just shooked my head no at them when I was behind
Her until she left lol.

I do like the free stuff from them every now and then. Lol

Patience, patience...and more patience....learn to watch your crabs and snails, watch to see what comes out of your live rock. You are establishing your own unique eco-system, and it takes time.
Imagine running a marathon with only a weeks training? Adding fish this week would put the same strain under your tanks natural filtration system. The magic of a reef tank is what you cannot see, which is why the testing is so important.
The fish are the active candy, the corals the stationary candy, but the really interesting part to me is seeing the minute feather dusters grow on rocks, finding a purple mushroom appearing, tiny and delicate, and growing on what seemed a barren rock, or best of all for me was finding a whelk, alive on a rock. It disappeared that night, but I've seen it a few times, slowly motoring across a rock. And I never bought a whelk!

Does anyone know if they will honor their online prices for fish? The fish are considerably cheaper on their website than the store.

They have always honored their online prices for me on all fish items....but I have never asked them to honor a fish price.....I bet they will though.
