Anyone else ever keep these? I like them because they provide a great contrast to my other fish, and get fairly large for tetras. I have 11 of them in my 65g (48"x18"x18") and all they do is hide unless it's feeding time. Other livestock includes 10 long fin zebra danios, 11 black neon tetras, 5 Roseline Sharks (denison's barbs) 6 half dollar sized angelfish, 7 peppered cories, 3 ottocinclus catfish (donated), and a clown pleco. . . I have several hiding places, tons of live plants for cover, like 4 amazon swords, crypts, java ferns, anubias bartari, anubias nana, jungle vals, and the entire top of the tank (except where the bubbler is) is covered in giant duckweed (the good kind of duckweed). My PH is 7.4, amonia, nitrites, and nitrates are always at 0 (love my giant duckweed). I have bright lights, but the duckweed filters most of that out, so lighting is actually quite subdued. I do a water change every two weeks. . .they get fed frozen blood worms or brine shrimp several times a week and flake the rest. my danios and cory cats spawn constantly. .I really don't understand what would cause them to be so scared all of the time. There is no fin nipping going on, no aggression from other fish. . .they flip out every time I put my hand in the tank! Does anyone have any ideas? I'm dumbfounded. I can't get them out without tearing the whole scape up, and I like them, I just would like them to come out more often. . .

I would guess that it's probably the barbs or danios intimidating them . I have a school of cardinal tetras that have stopped swimming across the tank after I added several species of livebearers .

I had some of these in a Tetra and Angel tank back in the UK, and mine were the complete opposite to yours it seems. I had a group of 5 I think, along with about 3 other types, and these were the bullies of the tank (think Cichlid in miniature). They harassed everything else, except the Algae Loach, such that I gave them back to the fish store.
Only thing I can think of is that the speed of the barbs and danio's is intimidating them?

I'd love to see some pics of your tank.
